Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Jesus, Thomas Rogers, whoever the fark he is, made 196 out of the Vomits' 311 (a Bannerman-esque 63% of the total) in the Marsh Cup ODI today.
Spivs won after rain shortened their target to 256 (Hughes and Reeks were cruising before the rain).

He is not a bad batsman. Watched most of his innings, the first white ball cricket I have watched in yonks. He played sensibly, just waiting for the bad ball. Will play shield next season with Harris moving back to the Worst.
Aside from Sneaky Pete with his 50, no one else was interested in hanging around. Buck erred in selecting only four batsmen… is that a thing these days?

Damn bloody Sydney and its useless weather. High chance of play loss today and Monday.
The sooner a purpose built stadium with a retractable roof is built to replace the SCG for footy and cricket the better.

Hopefully it is just that. He seems a real talent and a decent young bloke.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Uninterrupted play at the SCG today.
Spivs were in early shit at 5-73 thanks to 4 for bugger all to Will Sutherland (the siblings can play - Annabel has an unbeaten to atm v Yarps) but Jack Edwards and Matthew Gilkes have dug them out of trouble with an unbroken 134 run stand.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
So, another opening day's play & yet again bowlers dominate, particularly early on.
Tas 183 after being 3/19
WA 4/118 after being 4/54
SA 132 after being 3/0
Qld 7/112 after being 3/13
NSW 252 after being 5/73
The Sheffield Shield is my favourite cricket competition but I am fed up with this same garbage match after match. Batsmen rely more on luck than skill with the ball seaming all over the place.
Please produce FAIR wickets!

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Don’t think the wickets were that challenging.
Spivs can’t bat and neither can SA. Have a look at both Eraser-Beserker’s dismissals. That was not the wicket, just idiocy.
Was Bellerive really a green top?
Anyway the Vic bats put the Spiv bowlers to the sword on that pancake wicket.

Watched the stream when I could yesterday. It is bitter sweet watching Puck bat. He is just great to watch and clearly savours every moment but he is an incredibly skilled boxer entering the ring for what could be his last bout.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Puck batted beautifully and just looked a class above. Not a star but Kellaway is another correct, elegant player.
All the Vic wickets were lost going the slog. The funniest was that of little Sam Harper. He was given lbw off his glove. Terrible ump decision and Sam will certainly be teased about it.

I see Queensland won over SA … and they did it without Joe Burns. That’s him quietly off the scene then, same as Siddle and Patterson.

Yes. The Queensland selectors have decided to concentrate on the younger players & he won't be offered a contract next season. For that reason, I was a little surprised that Burns didn't retire prior to 2023/34.
However, prior to the game in Adelaide, he was our leading run-scorer this season with 446 runs @ 37.17. Jack Clayton has now overtaken him.

Burns has had an admirable career.. Also seems to be a cracking fella.

Oof… BOM predicting showers and storms to save the Spivs from a deserved heavy defeat.
Rare (aside from the Pomgolians) to see a team flogged in every facet of the game.

Spivs 7/95. No doubt they are trying but without success.
Suspect the Spiv dressing room is doing nothing but rain dances.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Can I just say the pitch is still a slow pancake.
Three slightly better than average Vics scored tons. This is not a minefield.
Imo, NSW are at risk of becoming as bad as the Jellies. This is as an inept and spineless a-shield performance as I can remember.
Surely Reeks ffs retires and a couple of others before they infect a couple of young Spivs who have a bit of talent.
