Re: Ashes to Ashes
This series seemed to hit its stride last night - best episode of the lot I think.
I especially liked the scene where we discover her father blew the car up.

Yeah, not sure he's not supposed to be real. I mean, it's not like Sam Tyler or her did any leg work to disprove there wasn't a Gene Hunt in the Manchester police in the 70's. Could be some twisted occurance before people die, in the mind of the writer.
Re: Ashes to Ashes
It's more like the characters are extentions of Sam and Alex's own personalities and imaginations. Gene is almost the father that Alex never really had, rather than a guardian angel.
Danny, like the writer implies that we go back to a time in our lives that was pivital to who we are and that we make sense of it before we die. Gets us ready for death possibly?
So in this series Alex comes to terms with how her parets die, in the next she could possibly come to terms with leaving her own daughter behind and confront why she has been shot.

Yeah possibly, but as I say it isn't implied they're real or not. They change real life events, it's not known whether they're real or not. For instance, Sam stops his dad killing Annie in LOM, it's not followed up whether that didn't happen etc. etc.
Alex has confronted why she's been shot IMO. Her family is linked to Arthur Layton. Layton shoots her.
Re: Ashes to Ashes
I thought Gene's Braveheart "we're the police" speech was pretty cringeworthy.
Other than that it was good.

Alex driving the pink tank was cringeworthy.

The 2nd is going to be set in 1982 isn't it?
Not sure a third series will work tbh. Certainly don't think Phil Glenister will be up for it?

Re: Ashes to Ashes
I heard the third series was going to be in 2004. Some dude goes back 4 years and can't believe how good Harmison used to be. Am I seconds away from life or seconds away from a consistent spell of bowling?
Lever - Yeah, pink tank was pretty rubbish. I liked the transformation into the clown and the wink accompanied by Ashes to Ashes in the background.

Yeah, which is only about 5 weeks later.
Suppose we'll have to see the 2nd series before we can judge about a 3rd.

Just noticed this from another blog (and its why this prog is always worth a second watch)
End clip of the series - there seems to be something different about the mural at luigi's cafe (bottom left)

great thread, re -read ...
I've bought the DVDs of LoM for further review.
A to A has been a cracking (nearly) 2 series so far; some of the music has been an unexpected treat. Already looking forward to series 3 ...

I think we must have had a thread somewhere for A2A2 too, Lardy. Enjoy LoM - I still revisit every so often as I love it. I also cycle past several of the locations every day going to and from work!

And given the bump, only fair to say now we've seen the second the 3rd series should be great!

Ta. I do remember seeing that thread before, and the Clapton references ... Derek and the Dominoes were short-lived in the very early 1970s (after his Bluesbreakers stint); from memory he abandoned D and D to join delaney and Bonnie, then Blind Faith, then lost it totally before coming back to Earth and to record 461 Ocean Boulevard.

3rd and Final Series where they reveal the 'shizzle' that's been going on in LoM & A2A and who Gene Hunt really is.

WTF? Jebus Chreastes.... [graham taylor] Did I not know that [/graham taylor].
Well. Something on the BBC to actually look forward to.

Re: Ashes to Ashes
You might want to reign that in a tad, Dan - it's not due on our screens until next spring! They're into about the 6th week of filming at the moment, I think.
