Castro retires. Link.

He's done well to step down on his own terms after surviving 637 assassination attempts.

Too right JKL. It detracts from the article really. I loathe that c*nt, possibly more than anyone on the planet, I'd love to mollywhop that little sh!t.

Why he thinks that it was only Castro who didn't want anything to do with the Yanks is beyond me.... his successor will no doubt have a similar stancepoint.

I like the way they say "help". Just like they've tried to "help" Cuba embrace democracy by imposing the strictest economic sanctions in the world in an effort to starve the people into revolt.

You've got to admire someone who resists the US for so long, despite his people being under extreme economic pressure.

Although one might say that allowing Soviet nukes there might have been tantamount to wishing your country was flattened.

They had no choice but to allow Soviet nukes there. Cuba's sugar industry was subsidised by the Soviets. Without it they would have been economically crippled. When the Soviets decided to move the missiles there, they couldn't refuse.

It wasn't even Russia's fault anyway. They were only responding to the US doing exactly the same thing - shipping nukes to the Soviet union's doorstep, Turkey.

I'm not a fan of Castro is any way, but it'd have been suicide not to stay in the USSR's good books, considering the USA stance on Cuba.

Fair dos but it was more a comment on 'you've got to admire someone who stood up to the USA'

Don't really admire someone who puts his own country in such obvious danger under any circumstances. Castro was a revolutionary, not sure how much so called 'love' for his own people there really was.

There are certain people who argue that but I tend to disagree.

Cuba has first world, first class education and health services, including better literacy and mortality rates than the US. Despite the US crippling it's economy, Cuba has achieved steady economic growth year on year and almost eradicated extreme hunger and poverty.

Well, he was forced to. That's the point. It was either do what he did or lose the support of the Soviets and watch his people starve and risk invasion by the US...

Democracy .. there is no democracy anywhere except for the Scandinavian countries .. and that too is iffy now. People do not realize what kind of massive benefits will come their way once the present cabal is routed.

People of Middle-East, people and children of Iraq who have suffered in silence for so long, Palestine, Africa will heave a sigh of relief once the present cabal is demolished. But for that to happen there needs to be an incident that unsettles this cabal .. takes them by surprise. Once that happens, there is a core group of really desperate people who will rip the heart out of this treacherous deceit.

But a spark is needed, something to ignite the charged environment. Some individual, a massive natural disaster on continental United States .. anything.
