Indian stars go shopping

HOW DO three of India's best cricketers spend their new-found fortunes after cleaning up in the player auction for the IPL?

They go shopping.

Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh turned heads on trendy Oxford St yesterday when they walked into the Ed Hardy store in Paddington.

The cashed-up trio, dressed in fitted shirts and designer jeans - Harbhajan got right into the spirit by wearing an Ed Hardy shirt - spent more than an hour trying on the latest gear while bobbing their heads to songs by pop stars Britney Spears and Rihanna which blared through the in-store speakers.

Not even a photograph of Aussie cricketer Michael Clarke's girlfriend, model Lara Bingle - one of the many celebrities to have been snapped wearing the LA fashion label - outside the change rooms was enough to dampen their spirits.

In the end, the men, who play Australia on Sunday at the SCG, left with a whopping bill of $9120.

Included in the spree were 16 T-shirts, six hoodies, six belts, six caps and three pairs of boxer shorts.

Harbhajan pocketed $927,000 when snapped up by Mumbai, the same franchise that outlaid $1.22 million for Tendulkar.

Harbhajan was in good spirits yesterday and even quipped about playing along side Andrew Symonds, the Australian all-rounder who he clashed with in the Sydney Test.

"I'm happy to play with whoever is on my side," said Singh, when asked about playing along side Australians.

"I was actually hoping to play with him (Andrew Symonds), but unfortunately Hyderabad signed him. Maybe there's next year."

Harbhajan expected the IPL to be a roaring success before adding he was surprised Australian captain Ricky Ponting only sold for $436,000.

Yuvraj Singh said while Twenty20 was "great entertainment", Test cricket would always remain his No. 1 priority.

No doubt shopping will remain a priority for all three players should the big dollars continue to roll in.
