Virat Kohli
Anyone watching U-19 World Cup? Doesn't Virat Kohli look very similar to Sehwag? The drives, the flicks. Even posture and body language when batting.
Looks very classy and confident for an U-19 player.

Re: Virat Kohli
As far as I know, few people have called him a better fielder than Yuvraj (when he was at prime)
Re: Virat Kohli
Watching now. He looks a level or three above u/19. Hopefully for the Indians he won't be another Kambli or Yuvraj.

Re: Virat Kohli
All of the Indian under 19's batsmen look classy, but for me Virat Kohli, Tanmay Srivastava and Manish Pandey are the standout batsmen, whilst Pradeep Sanghwan is the pick of the bowlers.
I also liked the look of Pakistan's new ball bowlers the other day. The 16 year old Adil Raza looked like he was already bowling mid 130's km/h.

Re: Virat Kohli
Kohli is naturally slimmer than Sehwag ever was, and has better footwork and a tighter technique. Don't see too many similarities tbh.
And yeah, I'd agree that Kohli and Pandey seem to be a cut above the rest.

Even IND's # 6 batsman looks class. PAK's Ahmed Shahzad, the 3 Indians and the Kiwi lower order batsman(guy who made a fifity yesterday) have been the only batsmen to impress so far(i haven't seen the S African batting yet).

He was suppose to open the bowling with this guy named M Aamer but unfortunately Aamer got really sick and has been ruled out of the tournament.Henry wrote:All of the Indian under 19's batsmen look classy, but for me Virat Kohli, Tanmay Srivastava and Manish Pandey are the standout batsmen, whilst Pradeep Sanghwan is the pick of the bowlers.

Phil Hughes had a disappointing series but he has already shown he is made out for FC cricket.

Re: Virat Kohli
I liked the look of Australia's Kumar Sarna in his brief innings against Pakistan. Strange to see a batsman wearing the green and gold wristily flicking the ball through mid wicket ala Tendulkar. Also played the cover drive on one leg ala Kevin Pietersen.
New Zealand's Tim Southee is clearly the most likely Kiwi to make it at highest level. South Africa's captain Parnell is having a great tournament but I haven't seen him bowl yet.

I wasn't too impressed. He had a very lousy technique.

Re: Virat Kohli
I'm not too impressed with Hughes. He shapes up to hit everything through the off side and is a big lbw candidate if the ball swings into him. Steven Smith looks a better player to me.

Given that Sehwag is to footwork what Mugabe is to good government, that ain't exactly hard.doremi wrote:Kohli is naturally slimmer than Sehwag ever was, and has better footwork and a tighter technique.

So almost everybody thinks that he's a poor fielder?

A few other interesting observations, too.

Nice find, lardy. Trev's remarks re: Hughes and Smith were spot on.
On the subject of U/19 World Cup players going on, didn't Hazy also play in that same tournament? He bowled Aus to victory in the semi and Final from memory.

On checking, Purple was the Aus star of the 2010 U/19 WC. He took 4-26 v SL in the semi and 4/30 v Pak in the Final.

Re: Virat Kohli
Kohli is so pre-eminent these days that I think he should have a couple of series named in his honour.
Gavaskar is largely forgotten, too, with even his quntitude superseded by Kohli's, so I think the Australia-India trophy can be renamed the Border-Kohli trophy.
And when India play Zimbabwe, as they often seem to, Zimbabwe's finest sons should be honoured with a newly minted Kohli-Flower trophy.
