Waiting for all the subis to start . . .
calling Malinga a cheat. Surely the part of ball touched the ground as he slid after catching Gilly?

Anyone who claims a grounded catch is playing the cheat. Be it Dhoni, Malinga, Symo or Clarke. Nothing discriminating in that.....
I remember Azharuddin coming clean a couple of occasions. Technology wasn't as good as today back then, and since he was all over the ball [diving over it and rolling along the ground after getting it] with no way of knowing on camera if it was not clean. I have seen him shrug off even when he could have claimed it without looking like a cheat...
In my opinion, there is no way a fielder can't know. Just like there is no way a batsman wouldn't know if he did or did not nick one behind...

Disagree about the 'no way' part. Sometimes, if one or more of your fingers is between the ball and the ground, and the ball touches the ground, it is difficult to know because things happen so fast.

That's a change of opinion for you isn't it, Pinky?

Than the fielder can say 'Not sure' and let the benefit of doubt go the other way...
Perhaps that would be accepting too much of a sportsmanship...Unfortunately we don't have too many such sporting gestures in the history.

What if he has no clue? Why would say he's not sure then?

No, have always maintained this as far as I can remember. I could be wrong though.

You can't play decent cricket or football with squash balls.
