Ponting gets Cricketer of The Year. Fair, I guess, though Shiv had a good shot at it too.

Michael Vaughan, with just six games to his name all year - three of them against a West Indies side that could barely be called international quality - makes the Test team of the year.

Farce much?

And I'm a big fn of Tendulkar's but surely Yuvi deserved a place ahead of him going by recent form.

I believe it was a joke about it being cricket-related.

Best not to bring it up, I reckon...

Player of the year - Ponting
Test player of the year - Yousuf
ODI player of the year - Hayden
Emerging player - Tait (future of world cricket is in trouble)

ICC Test Team of the Year Matthew Hayden, Michael Vaughan, Ricky Ponting (capt), Mohammad Yousuf, Kevin Pietersen, Michael Hussey, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Stuart Clark, Makhaya Ntini, Mohammad Asif, Muttiah Muralitharan. 12th man: Zaheer Khan.

ICC ODI Team of the Year Matthew Hayden, Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting (capt), Kevin Pietersen, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher (wk), Chaminda Vaas, Shane Bond, Muttiah Muralitharan, Glenn McGrath. 12th man: Michael Hussey

Very surprised with Vaughans inclusion, Chanderpaul deserved to get into both teams.

Absolute lunacy - no Chanderpaul in the Test team? At least 3 of the 5 batsmen played with nothing like the substance he did. Not Vaughan, or Hussey or Yousuf who's stats look good but basically cashed in against weak attacks - Hussey was coming in at 200/2 nearly every Test in the Ashes and only scored one hundred. Yousuf got his runs against a West Indies attack where the 4 best bowlers (on average) were Ganga, Taylor, Sarwan & Dave Mohammad - frightening stuff!

Chanderpaul was carrying his entire team all summer.

In a way Yousuf was also carrying his teams batting, only real support he had was YK (Inzi was in very poor form in tests last year), he was regularly comming in when the scores were 10/2, 30/2 a good example of this was against England last summer, even though we lost 3-0 he averaged 90+, not to mention the record he broke, all opo were non minnows.

I was supposed to add we have probably got the worst openers in the world not just atm but for the last couple of years, which puts lots of pressure on the middle order.

Perhaps the awards ceremony was running over - they didn't have time to wait for Chanderpaul to crab his way up the stage.

Hmm - fair enough. But England was the year before, and the West Indies had the fearsome attack of Sarwan, Mohammad, Taylor and Ganga.

Been quite a forgettable year for Test cricket - World Cup year so not a lot of matches. Not many players leap out, but Chanderpaul would be one, McGrath for me would have been another - maybe not at his very best but took crucial wickets at vital times on batsmen friendly wickets.

Almost unnoticed (by me at least) Sangakkara has scored 696 runs at 232 split between a ridiculously bowler friendly series, and a ridiculously batsman friendly one.

And surely the fact Adam Gilchrist played an incredible innings in the biggest ODI game of the year should have been enough to get in the ODI team?
