The first ever game of Twenty20 cricket was played between Somerset and Warwickshire on 13th June 2003.

Warwickshire comfortably defended 188 in a match containing eleven sixes.

The most recent game of Twenty20 cricket - the opening match of the T20 World Cup between South Africa and the West Indies on 11th September 2007, saw South Africa chase down 206 with 2.2 overs to spare in a match containing eighteen sixes.

12th September 1930: Wilfred Rhodes plays the last game of his 33 year career.

It was his 1,110th Match, where he scored 39,969 runs and took 4,204 wickets. Not bad going that.

33 year career! My, that's a lot of cricket and he played in the late 19th century too, then.

On this day in 2005 biff harde spent ten hours glued to a seat in the Bedser Stand right behind the bowler's arm as Kevin Pietersen smashed the hapless Australians all around the Oval to win the Ashes for England.

Like English cricket, he has never quite recovered from the experience.
