Vikram Solanki became the first ever "super sub" during the 1st ODI between England and Australia at Headingley on July 7th 2005, when he replaced fast bowler Simon Jones after 31 overs of Australia's innings.

He wasn't required to bat, however, when England replied to Australia's total as England chased the runs down for the loss of just one wicket.
