Athers- 98 not out vs Donald at Trent Bridge in '98. Few finer.
Usman Afzaal's 4 in the first test against Australia in the 2001 Ashes was pretty classy.

Bruce Laird made a great 92 v the WI pacemen in their pomp; he never made a Test century.

Tugga made two low 100s (112 and 107 from jaded memory) at Old Trafford in 1997 on a paddy field. Doesn't comply with this thread but farkin outstanding anyway.

He organised his own open-top bus parade mid pitch after getting off the mark.

Terry Jenner's 74 v England (mainly Underwood) in Adelaide in 1974-5 was a cracker. we were in deep shite when he came to the wicket.
Ross Edwards 99 in 1975, also ... Headingley, IIRC.

Well England probably dropped him at some stage before he reached his century, so those innings more than likely should have qualified for this thread.

Actually it was 108 and 116 and he had a rooted right hand and thumb. Remarkable pair of knocks that got Aus back into the series.skully wrote:Tugga made two low 100s (112 and 107 from jaded memory) at Old Trafford in 1997 on a paddy field. I seem to remember Nasser and Butch making some hard earnt and vital 50's in the Windies in 2004. Edwards and Best are hardly Garner and Marshall, but they were bowling damn quick at the time, and the pitches were pretty dodgy.

Trevor Bailey's 71 against Australia at Lords in 1953. In partnership with Willie Watson, he saved a game, which we looked doomed to lose. England went on to regain the Ashes in the final test.

As always with Nas, the best player of his era of the England team on crap wickets...

Dravid in Jamaica (I think), where he scored 90-0dd and 70-odd in the last test of the series on an pitch that was practically corrugated and set India up for a win.

On Test debut too (although he did play a fair bit of WSC).
Viv Richards (after a Laird ton in WSC) came up to Laird at the end of the day and said something like "Man I wish I could bat like that". Surely a better thing to take to your grave than a mere Test ton.

Jonty Rhodes's counter attacking 80 odd was something special as well- nearly won it for SA.

Butcher didn't play in that series, it was Tres and Vorn by then.
