Swanny has toured South Africa, Sri Lanka and New Zealand with the England Test side without getting a game.

Don't think he was ever named in a National squad, Peter. Fine player.

She did (allegedly). It wasn't about the cigar though. Though close enough.

A case of Lewinsky FFS.
It seems most US presidents have played FC cricket ... Kennedy, Ford, Nixon, Clinton, several Jacksons, Johnson, Bush, Tru(e)man.
Alas, no Hoover, Coolidge, Eisenhower, or Roosevelt.

WW, embee - what was this (above) about John Maguire in WA?
Or are we talking about a different player, spelled McGuire, as per Wally, in which case I get an unpleasant drift ...

great story ... sounds like a very fine player, perhaps he'd have been selected for another state had he moved

WideWally wrote:lardbucket wrote:Wally, have you got a list somewhere of 12th men?
I've seen a list on the internet & will have a look for it.
Some of the Australian players who were 12th men but never got a test were:-
Les Poidevin
Colin McKenzie
Mick Waddy
Les Hill
Syd Hird
Bert Tobin
Ian Quick
Sam Trimble
Ian McLachlan
Jack Potter
Jock Irvine
Geoff Davies
Shaun Graf
Peter Clifford
Ben Hilfenhaus
I remember seeing Ben Hilfenhaus - but also note that his debut was the year after this was posted.
Played 27 Tests, taking 99 wickets @28.5. Economy 2.79, S/R 61.39
Remarkably similar figures to our own Ryan Sidebottom who ...
Played 22 Tests taking 79 wickets @28.24. Economy 2.78, S/R 60.91
Both quite short, but productive Test careers. Hilfenhaus' figures suggest that he should have played more international cricket - why didn't he ?
