i still dont know how an international bowler can miss the stumps with a 5 yard run-up

Why didn't Gul bowl off his normal run up?????
Well if Pakistan gets to the final...or semis they have an incentive to win normally and avoid the tie.

I would have thought it's because he used a 5 yard run up and not his normal 15 or whatever it is

There was a Surrey/Warks bowl out a few years back and not many bowlers hit the wickets at all.
That was weird stuff.
And it didn't really matter did it? They had to do it because its in the playing regulations

OK, someone will really have to make up their minds. Do we or do we not carry points over?

IMO, it took far too long for all that to be set up though.
Can you imagine the nerves if there was a qualification issue at stake there?

judging by the relaxed way the bowl out was done would suggest not

It always astounds me that professional cricketers can't hit the stumps in a bowl out.
It ain't rocket science - full and straight.

India were relaxed, Pakistan were tense, India won. Very similar to penalty shoot-outs in football.

No definitely not. That is why the bowl out was not necessary and the atmosphere was so relaxed.

Jesus, can you imagine Steve Harmison in a bowl out?
Lucky if he gets it on the cut strip.

India were practising bowl-outs. That explains a few things.

Knowing how Harmison's mind works under pressure he'd probably bowl a bouncer...

Shouldn't the bowlers practice bowling it where they want it to go every day in the nets...?
Re: India v Pakistan, T20 WC, Durban, 14th September
Just as well that once Pak took longer than 14.5 overs both teams went through...because there was a bit of an Edgbaston at the end of the prper match.
It seems the run-out was not effected properly. The Dancing Numpty broke the wicket with his foot before taking the bails off with the ball in his hand, so in fact the run should have stood and Pak should have won. Doesn't make any difference though.

The official result actually stands as a tie.
They were just bowling out to see who took the 2 points

In fact in the studio discussion, it seems that often the main bowlers don't bowl, and if they do they don't use their normal run up as they will often bowl it over the stumps. That seems to be one reason why it is often batsmen who bowl in bowl outs !!!!!

Well, the pacers would normally target just outsude off-stump line, and they'd have a batsman in front of them most times.
