Who would you say is or could be the better allrounder in Tests, embee? Symonds or Watson?

Re: Shane Watson in the IPL ....
The lad's done an outstanding job. I bin watching 'im I 'ave.
His innings today for the Royals was remarkable for its power, timing and more generally finishing ability.
He has been the outstanding player in this tournament.
Provided he keeps fit, he could go for a lot higher in next year's IPL tournament.
Or maybe it's all because of Warne's captaincy, and he's really $hit.

Re: Shane Watson in the IPL ....
in the 19th over when Warne got hit all over the park, saw Shane Watson run towards Warne in the last over to suggest field placements.
One could literally feel fumes out of Warnie's ears, and that's when Watson decided to consult Wanie .. a bit thick that Watson lad if you ask me ...
he needs a clever, accomodating captain. Ponting might not be it.

Re: Shane Watson in the IPL ....
Was a funny/ sad moment when he was being interviewed at the end of the game today, just after Warne called Watson's the best IPL (or 20 20 in general, dunno which) innings he had seen.
Fawning Rameez Raja: So Watto, are you getting a lot of calls from home on your brilliant performances?
Watson (visibly thinking): Um yes, I get calls from my family erm yes and ....erm .....(apparently getting acute constipation from having to think even more) ... my erm.. (by now Furriner is thinking as well 'fans?' 'supporters?' 'team mates?' 'ACB?').... support group, yes, support group!"
To answer embee's other question, there was a moment on the field when I thought he'd crocked it again, seemed to be holding himself gingerly. But it seemed to have passed, I think.

Actually he was talking to him possibly discussing field placements because he (Watson) had to bowl the last over, not effing Warne. That is when the conversation happened.
And your 'feeling that fumes were coming out of Warne's ears' may be true but, remarkably, that is exactly what the commentator said too at the time (but not making the point you are making). You sure you not a commentator?

No, he just repeats verbatim what he hears without giving any consideration to context . . .

Re: Shane Watson in the IPL ....
Symonds is a more destructive batsman ....and has the confidence at Test level to succeed ...despite questions on his technique ...
Watto probably has a better technique ...but doesn't as yet have the confidence to succeed at Test level ...a prolonged run may give him that confidence but he doesn't seem to be able to avoid injury long enough to get that run ..
Symonds bowling has the advantage of being able to bowl mediums or off spin ...neither are really good enough to be a front line bowler (but there are enough crap test players that he keeps getting wickets) ....
Watson bowls fast enough but I dont remember ever seeing him do anything with the ball ...swing seam cut or bounce...if he could get one of those going he could be dangerous ...His best hope for playing seemed to be to allow MacGill to play as a second spinner on a turning track (and second number XI) but I would think now that if the wicket is a bunsen then Roy and Pup are as good as options as anything after MacGill ...(Of course Casson , Cullen etc would possibly improve quicker if playing Tests and their upside is higher) ...
Watson is also a lot younger than Symonds

His batting has improved, but his bowling in general is straight up and down hittable dross. He also comes across as abit of a sulking c*nt.

Yeah, don't think his bowling is up to a standard where you could put him in as a frontline pacer in tests.

Re: Shane Watson in the IPL ....
It was interesting to note that Warne went for 27 runs in the 19th over, and then Watson went for just 7 in the last over(and took a wicket).Unusual for Warney, and unusual for Watson.but I don't think Watson has been very expensive so far in the IPL,maybe the pitches are suited to his bowling.

Greg Chappel echoed my thoughts at the same time. I can't help it if he said exactly what I was thinking
When I saw Watson run towards Warne, I was reminded of someone I know who does that exact same thing .. talk to me when I am furious.

I'm rapt for Watson.
Fingers crossed that this tournament marks a shift to a permanent upward trending performance graph.

Even Watson cynics would admit that he has more talent than the other two you mentioned. If he wants to play test cricket for Australia, he needs to make a lot of first class runs, and aim for a place in the top six as a Kallis type of player who'll bowl maybe 10 overs a day. Unlikely....
