Englands ODI squad named Friday
Any changes you would like to see?
Hows about Samit Patel. Good striker of the ball and is bowling more and more spin these days too.. although his record might suggest more of a 4 day player than the limited over form of the game tbh

No-one new will be in it. The same old greasy, talentless ****** as before. England's highest paid player as captain, et cetera. I'd drop Mustard personally. Maybe have the traditional bi-annual re-selection of Solanki with Ambrose at 7. Seriously.

Re: Englands ODI squad named Friday
Think Shah will be the token sacrifice from the losing side that stank out New Zealand.
Tough on him, as he only had the chance to bat with more than ten overs left twice in a five game series, but that's why they put him at six - easy to drop.
Straight swap with Bopara. Who'll then become the person most likely to be dropped in the event of losing the series.
Wonder if they might cash in on Strauss' form and rediscovery of his nuggety and nurdly ways which made him a decent middle order ODI player back in the day.
I'd go (possibly, I've not given it much thought):
Wright (needs a run at opening)
Dunno
Shah
Pietersen
Strauss
Collingwood
Ambrose +
Swann
Harry Somebowler
Ray Quickarmington
Sidebottom
Blimey, times are tough. I can't think of any seamers I'd fancy in ODers or an opener that isn't a crab. But that's the balance for me - four front line bowlers, get Collingwood, Wright and Shah to chip in the rest of the overs if needed.

I do believe you're missing Phil Ballcaresser from your team...

He's the keeper. Comes easy to him.
But even if he leaves the wide ones, Tom Sliptastic will bail him out.

Re: Englands ODI squad named Friday
It would be nice to see Patel in the squad. It might happen, but he hasn't even played for the Lions yet.
You read it here first- Simon Jones is recalled. 10 overs maximum a game so it wont be too stressful on his body, and he's in great form at this very moment in both first class and one day cricket. I think they're going to call him up and have a look first hand at how he's going. Even if he doesn't play every game, they can have a look at him.
Strauss must be in line for a recall now that he's back in form. His ODI record is actually pretty good, and i've always thought he could be a good Fairbrother/Thorpe type player in the middle order.
My predicted squad
Batsmen-
Bell
Shah
Pietersen
Collingwood
Strauss
Wright
'Keepers/All rounders-
Mustard
Ambrose
Mascharenhas
Bowlers-
Sidebottom
S.Jones
Broad
Anderson
Swann
Tredwell

There's more chance of Watford passing the ball through midfield than Jonah getting called up.

What have they got to lose? If he gets injured, then he would have got injured playing for Worcs anyway. He's swinging the ball at 90mph at the moment, and he's taking wickets. Lets see where he's at.

Yes, Samit certainly ought to be shedding a pound or two, JKL.
Know a couple of lads who play Notts Prem with him and he's not the brightest by all accounts, but they reckon his game has improved hugely over the last couple of years, and from what I've seen at Trent Bridge I'd generally agree, though he gives us wicket up far too easily for my liking at times. He really can be Mr Soft Dismissal.
His bowling would be a useful option too, and his fielding's not too shabby for a chubby chubster.
I'd like to see him given a go sooner rather than later, and let the England hierarachy get to work on his approach to the game from the inside, even if it's just a taster and then being sent back to County cricket for a while to see how he responds . . . though I'm not quite so sure how wise that would be just now with the current incumbent of the top job!

Once again he's flattering to deceive, averaging mid 30's on THAT Taunton pitch is a huge under achievement already this season.

Tres and Langer are both averaging well over 50. Those are the sort of numbers he should be aspiring to achieve. Having those two around can only help him, and i'm sure they've taken him under their wing.

Mustard

Hildreth
Shah
Bell
Collingwood
Wright
Masceranhas
Broad
Tremlett
Sidebottom
Panesar
Hoggard
Yes, I know Hoggy's fitness is under a cloud, and yes I know that his ODI record should be X certificate, but how else are we to find out if he has really lost his cutting edge in advance of the SA series.
As for the spinner's place - sorry, there's only one spinner worth talking about.
