Tiger Woods
If he wins the US Open tonight, he must surely be considered the finest golfer the world has ever seen. He's been out of the game for the last 2 months with a knee injury (He shouldn't have played in this tournament, but obviously didn't want to miss a major), and has basically hobbled his way around the course, but he leads by one shot going into the final round. What a champion.

He's a freak, it's that simple.
Hopefully Ogilvy or Westwood can hold their nerve and shoot the lights out. Tiger wins enough when he's fit - can't he let someone else have a go when he's injured?

My man Westwood's going to do it. He's a Forest fan too...

In terms of being the greatest in their chosen sport, he and Schumacher are probably the only two in the past 15 years who have serious claims to being the best ever in their sport. I hope Tiger can win this major.
Federer or Ian Thorpe are not quite the greatest of all time.

I know you were probably talking about individual sports, but Andrew Johns clearly falls into that category.
I know Rugby League is only played in three countries, but god the man was good.

That's being generous.

Re: Tiger Woods
Is there anything that pumps up the American golf fan more than a Tiger charge? Man, it's great to watch. That first monster eagle putt was just amazing. And the one on the 18th to take the lead wasn't too shabby either.

Yeah, but can anyone stand the crowd screaming "in the hole" when it is so clearly going to miss, or even off the tee shot. Pathetic.

Hehe, absolutely no argument, Ponts. The American watching a golf tournament is even more boorish than Americans normally are!!Paul Keating wrote:Yeah, but can anyone stand the crowd screaming "in the hole" when it is so clearly going to miss, or even off the tee shot. Pathetic.

team sports are fine too, but they have to be truly international, so leeg doesn't qualify.
I 'spose Jordan should be included too, as he has played in the past 15 years.
and BTW, is Johns really the best player of all time? Probably not.

I'm putting off going to a major in the US out of fear I might end up on murder charges should I be standing next to one of those idiots.

Re: Tiger Woods
The 'in the hole' crowd have even outlasted those clowns that used to whstle along with Cyclops at the Oz Open tennis a few years ago.
Get rid of that lot, and somehow stop West Coast Eagles fans from breathing, and there'll be no 'sports spectators with annoying habits' left.

Golf crowds are getting more crazier each tournament.
It all started when they won the President's Cup and we had middle age and mature men jumping on top of each other in a game normally known for being civilised and gentlemen like.

It was the Ryder Cup and I still PMSL when I see footage of that. Still, it has added plenty of spice to the US v Europe encounters.Paul Keating wrote:It all started when they won the President's Cup and we had middle age and mature men jumping on top of each other in a game normally known for being civilised and gentlemen like.

Isn't it "You da man"? I was pleased to see Stuart Appleby's caddy threaten to beat the carp out of a couple of drunk loons earlier in the tournament.

Re: Tiger Woods
Woods is a freak but it is annoying how quickly the rest of the field goes to water when he is on a charge. Anyway, there is nothing surer than him winning tomorrow - he has never lost a major having lead after 3 rounds.
Re others - I think Federer may well end up being the sports greatest. At least I think Federer v Laver isn't much different to Tiger v Jack.
And Phil Taylor is undeniably the greatest dartsman ever.

Some people are starting to wonder whether we have already seen the best of Federer, however.

Probably - tennis players tend to peak around 25. Doesn't mean he won't win 3 or 4 more Slams before he pulls the plug. He will most likely end his career with all the GS singles records, the record number of weeks at No 1, probably a record of making consecutive GS semi-finals that may never been beaten and so on.

Westwood one shot ahead with nine holes to play. Tiger shot a double bogey on the first hole for the third time this tournament. Ogilvy's just dropped two shots and probably put himself out of the running.

A couple to play - Mediate leads by 1 from Tiger and Westwood. Tiger just holed a clutch 6 foot par putt and Mediate is in the rougb on the 17th.
