The Official Discuss/Blame BCCI thread...!!!
Since BCCI is most discussed item on these boards than anything else, and anything they do or touch is gold and there will be enough occassions to whinge about them or blame them so we might as well have a thread for it.

To start off and flag off this thread:
Income Tax dept to ask BCCI to pay taxes.....
The Board of Control for Cricket in India, the richest sports body in the country, will be asked to pay taxes on income from commercial activities like the Indian Premier League, sale of television rights, tickets and advertisement from financial year 2008-09.
The Income Tax Department will soon ask the BCCI to pay the taxes under Section 11 (4) of the Income Tax Act, 1961, which deals with commercial activity of trusts. This means that the board will pay taxes at the rate of 33.99 per cent on from the current financial year.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes had constituted a committee to examine the taxability of the BCCI and is likely to recommend in the similar line, officials familiar with the development said.
The BCCI, registered under Section 12 (A) of the Income Tax Act as a trust, was availing of income-tax exemption under Section 11 by claiming to be a charitable organisation. It had said that promotion of cricket is a public utility.
To stop the misuse of the definition of charity which included any object of public utility, the finance ministry amended the definition of charity in Budget 2008 to say that income-tax exemption will not be allowed for any commercial activity.
"We will not issue any circular on this (taxation of BCCI). We will ask the BCCI to pay taxes on income from commercial activity," an official said.
If the BCCI does not show income from commercial activities like the IPL tourney, matches, sale of TV rights, advertisement deals and sale of tickets, the assessing officer concerned may call for separation of accounts or order an audit, officials added.
Further, the department will monitor the quarterly advance tax paid by the board.
The final scrutiny may happen after the return of income is filed in September 2009.

Re: The Official Discuss/Blame BCCI thread...!!!
Here's another fine mess by BCCI. The gaffe may actually help Asif indirectly.....
IPL organisers breach rule by identifying player: WADA
The representative of the World Anti-Doping Agency in Pakistan on Monday slammed the Indian Premier League organisers for prematurely identifying the player who failed a dope test during the tournament.
The IPL on Monday named Pakistani pacer Mohammad Asif as the player who had failed the dope test but as per the WADA rules the player could not be identified until his/her 'B' sample is also analysed.
"The announcement by the IPL is a clear violation of WADA regulations," Dr Danish Zaheer who also heads the Pakistan Sports Medicine Association said.
He was of the view that the IPL has violated the World Anti-Doping Code by prematurely disclosing Asif's name.
"The Indian Premier League organisers have made a deviation from the WADA code as IPL should not have made a public disclosure until Mohammad Asif's 'B' urine sample was checked in the presence of Asif or his legal and medical representative," Zaheer said.
He referred to the result management code of WADA paragraph 7.1, 7.2 and 14.2 regarding public disclosure that provides that athlete be given ample time and opportunity to prove his innocence before public disclosure.
"This deviation from the WADA regulation can now help Asif win his case in appeal if his medical and legal representative fought his case well," Zaheer said.

If that's the price we pay by not being held to ransom by the BCCI, so be it.

Unfortunately being thrashed by the Aussies again and again cannot be the only reason why the world should watch cricket now? You may not mind seeing team India in action, but unfortunately the rest of the members want more games with them. Live with it.

So you're happy for the BCCIn to act like playground bullies? Most enlightened.
By the way, it may have ecaped your attention, or does not fit in with your preconceived opinions, but Test Cricket is increasing in popularity in only two countries. Two clues - they're not on the subcontinent, and they play for a little urn.

Yep, It's all the BCCI's fault. They told the Brits to invade India and spread the stupid game of cricket throughout the sub-continent.

It may have escaped your attention that the last decade some of the most exciting tests and series was played between two countries. Two clues - One is a country down under, and the second side is not English.
