Laxman as well.JKLever wrote:YoKh is better
All time PAK 11 should look like
1- Anwar
2- Hanif
3- Younis Khan
4- Miandad
5- Inzamam
6- Imran
7- Moin
8- Wasim
9- Saqlain/ A Qadir(can't decide)
10- Shoaib
11- Waqar
I think Younis Khan is a better option at # 3 . Zaheer despite his great batting talent never stood up to the W Indian bowlers like Miandad did in 88 or like Wasim Raja did for most of his career.Younis on the other hand seems like a brave batsman and will give you runs in tough conditions.
Shoaib> Fazal because
who needs "great control" or "long spells" when you have a 100 mph bowler who can blow teams away.If it was a 4 men bowling attack then i would have considered Fazal.
Moin> Bari because
there is no "line and length" bowler who would need a great WK to help him out. Moin was also called the "man of the crises" mainly due to his ability to play quality innings when the team was in serious trouble so i will have him for his batting.

Zaheer over YK anyday of the week. And Shoaib or Fazal could go either way really.
And having Bari in the sie would completely unbalance the team.

Re: M Yousuf- Overrated?
Surely it depends if you mean "at their best" (or indeed "on average").
I would always have Asif in, at least on cricketing grounds. Elegance and danger with bat and ball. He would replace Shoaib for me (sorry): who could be a match winner, but also a letdown to his team (sometimes even before getting on to the ground!) Also, Asif could be the man where the wicket does not suit the fastest bowling. You have three fast bowlers there already ... So Asif at 6, with the rest moved one down. Extremely strong batting lineup!
Perhaps it was the whiff of controversy that put you off him?

If you are playing Asif then it should allow you to play Bari as well

Beauty of bowling fast(and i mean F-a-s-t fast) is that you can take the pitch OUT of the equation.PeterCS wrote:Surely it depends if you mean "at their best" (or indeed "on average").

Yes, to an extent. ... though at 40 degrees C, you might need a Plan B if the opposition batting holds out for a while!

Valid point but remember we will have 5 bowlers and the bowlers selected are use to bowling in 40 degrees C.PeterCS wrote:Yes, to an extent. ... though at 40 degrees C, you might need a Plan B if the opposition batting holds out for a while!

If he did that he'd hardly ever play for Pakistan considering how little test cricket they've played of late.

yeah but hopefully it will change soon with a strong possibility of a series against WI, IND and SL in the next 8 months.Henry wrote:PlanetPakistan wrote:I think Yousuf should retire from ODIs and T20s.

PAK should look to build up to the 2011 world cup so youngsters like Fawad and Jamsheed should be given a proper chance.

Perhaps they should first retire from IPL(especially the 3 folks that you mentioned)Chandan wrote:Test batsmen like even Tendulkar or Kallis or Chanderpaul etc.

Why? IPL is a domestic tournament. And they have signed contracts for 3 years.

..because ODIs are many times more important than IPL.

ODIs are international cricket. They require different intensity compared to a domestic tournament. Or tell me why are many players still playing FC cricket after retiring from test cricket. Isn't test cricket more important than FC cricket?

Re: M Yousuf- Overrated?
I didn't watch much of the IPL so can't say that for sure but i am guessing since the IPL is televised, watched by 1000s in the crowd and pays big money so the intensity level is different than an average domestic game watched by 4 guys and hardly any TV coverage.Chandan wrote:PlanetPakistan wrote:Chandan wrote:PlanetPakistan wrote:Perhaps they should first retire from IPL(especially the 3 folks that you mentioned)Chandan wrote:Test batsmen like even Tendulkar or Kallis or Chanderpaul etc.

Plus playing 15-20 T20 matches is hardly the best way to prepare for tests.

Re: M Yousuf- Overrated?
Intensity level certainly doesn't equal an international game. And I don't think just spectators increase that intensity. No one watches test cricket in Pak. Yet it is played as a test cricket, not domestic cricket.
And who says IPL is to prepare for tests? The season ends with IPL. No one plays any test cricket till AT LEAST 2 months after IPL ends.

1-because test cricket is the pinacle of the game and the players know that they have to perform in tests to be recognized.Chandan wrote:Intensity level certainly doesn't equal an international game. 2- umm.... WI, AUS, ENG and NZ were playing tests while IPL was still on and players from all 4 of these countries played in IPL so where did this 2 months thing come from?
don't know why you and other Indian posters here get so defensive when ever there is a discussion about IPL.

Who says people dont watch test cricket in Pakistan people just dont like to watch in stadiums
they prefer to watch it on TV at home. You will find 5-6 out of every 10 men listning to the score in offices where they cant watch
and most roadside eatng places where there is a tv are full when there is a cricket match Test or ODI going on.
So much so that they sometimes have to close there Tv sets so that actual customrs can sit and eat.
This is one of the reasons why I think pakistan should play home tests in England rather than UAE
that would mean the test match would run from 4-11 in the evening great for tv viewers
you would get a larger crowd all five days
