O/T Request for impartial advice - Dahnanda in July
We have a bit of a do (family wedding) Way Out West of Brizzy next year - July. The great Garden City of Toowoomba!
Different flight combinations are possible.
At the risk of stoking up local rivaltries and ribaldries, where in Oz is specially worth visiting in July? Everyone seems to go to the GBR, and esp as we are in Queensland, makes some sense to include Cairns and head up there.
I fear Melbin and even Sydney might be much like an English winter in July, i.e. rain and misery.
We are considering New Zealand too. Perhaps just for the sheep, errr, I mean wine.
But a fairly limited time budget and anything but unlimited cash (might also put a dampener on staying very long in Sydney?).
Any recommendations? Would be appreciated, to throw into the planning mix.

Toowoomba is a very nice place in springtime, but no-one goes near there in July.
Go to North Queensland.

Sydney was warmer in July than London was for much of this year. The real downside is the short days.
You should try Ayres Rock and surrounds - not too hot in the day and won't be that busy.
Darwin also won't be too hot.

Go North, young man, go North. Anywhere up the Top End. Unless you really like being cold wet and misreable, in which case, head for Tassie.

My kind of place. Though, as it's my kind of place, I probably wouldn't be miserable.

You really like being outside when it's pissing down, barely above freezing, with a 40knot wind and a wind-chill factor of at least 20 degrees?
Poms are weird . . .

Yeah, I reckon it makes you feel more alive... sharper. It's an elemental orgasm.
Re: O/T Request for impartial advice - Dahnanda in July
The only orgasmic thing about it is when you finally get into shelter - and, preferably, into your sleeping bag with a nice warm body of the opposite sex . . .
. . . after the obligatory cup of hot soup, of course.

Nah. Sod that. Body warming is for losers. You've got to get the shake of delerium and then tank a bottle of whiskey. You go to a totally different plain.

Aye, but death is not the sort of out-of-body experience I'm interested in.

I go to 'the depths of the Screaming Lake'. It's quite good there.

You should see the Finns. They're the worst. They own the Screaming Lake.
Re: O/T Request for impartial advice - Dahnanda in July
I prefer the Dreaming Lake. It's quieter, for one thing.

Yeah, but it's full of pretentious 'art fags' smoking opium, smelling their own farts and telling us all 'kids are people in their own right'.
Re: O/T Request for impartial advice - Dahnanda in July
Not opium, just dope and bit of hash.

What's dope over there? It's hash here, for the most part.
It was opium, tails, don't let them fool you. That and codine.
Re: O/T Request for impartial advice - Dahnanda in July
Grass. Mary Jane. Weed. Ganja.
But they only grow the opium for medicinal purposes. Honest . . .

Ahh, roight. Maybe it's the same over here - dope's an oldies word .
To keep on topic(of the forum) I've been using 'Gordon' of recent. As in Gordon Greenidge. Oh yeah.... I'm amazing.
