NSW politics in crisis
A former garbo has ousted Morris Iemma as NSW Premier. No doubt "Taking out the trash" will be the headline on the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald tomorrow.

Poor Morris. First time the useless NSW Government actually tried to DO something in 13 long years, and he gets the arse for it.

Nathan Neville Nobody Rees. Been an MP for 18 months, and is an ex-greenkeeper and garbo, and can now add Premier to his resume.

And it probably means that lightweights like Reba Maher and Graeme West will survive.

Re: NSW politics in crisis
The swings in these by-elections are going to be massive.
Labor will probably hang on to Lakemba because it's safer than Fort Knox, but Ryde is going to fall to the Libs and it's not going to be pretty.
I wish we had a the abilty to "recall" governments like they do in some US states - I can't believe we have to wait another two-and-a-half years to kick this mob out.
As for Iemma. He was a good bloke who was just in over his head. At least he was honest and not corrupt.
Since 2005 Bob Carr, Michael Egan, Andrew Refshauge, Craig Knowles, Carl Scully, John Watkins, Michael Costa and Morris Iemma have all left the government - that's the eight most prominent ministers in just three years. Surely it must be some kind of record?

Sounds like an apt description of Nathan Rees. It will end in tears as well. Then the bumbling Carmel Tebbutt can take over and do "somethink" with the State.Hass wrote:As for Iemma. He was a good bloke who was just in over his head.

Pah, the farkwit Liberals are to blame. If Broggers hadn't been knifed in the back by the fundamentalists then he or Fatty would be Premier now and the likes of Costa and Sartor would have already been consigned to history.

I should add that WTF do we even have elected state governments? They are a useless waste of time with no real power.

Hard to argue. Libs shot themselves in the foot. I can barely remember the name Peter Debnam, because he is such a forgettable character. Libs should been knocking this great State's economy into shape at this point.JGK wrote:Pah, the farkwit Liberals are to blame. Agree totally. Devolve the community stuff to the local councils and the big-picture stuff to Canberra and strip both Spring Street and Canberra of their biggest dumpmasters of blame - each other. The talent pool in a population the size of australia's is thin enough as it is, and if all levels of government are given more to do the time and opportunities for sticking your fingers in the till or your noses in the trough will be lessened.

Re: NSW politics in crisis
local govts are too small...would need to be regionally based...canberra are not interested in providing directly funding services...if you look at a budget braeakdown of most state govts you will find health and eduaction take over 2/3rds of the the resources...then the cops and transport...the rest is miniscule...states offer an economy of scale for health the cops and education that local govt could not deliver on...
get a grip you people and study a bit of public policy
the coag process is sorting out the old cost and responsibility shifting games between the feds and the states.

A fair call, JGK. Although they had a chance to rectify that debacle somewhat by choosing Barry O'Fatty to lead once Broggers got the chop, but they chose that useless weak tw@t Debnam instead.JGK wrote:Pah, the farkwit Liberals are to blame. Do these parties not have pollsters keeping their eye on the pulse of electorate? FFS.

But at least they had a bit of character, h. This Spiv Labor party is just farked. They lost their only good pollie, John Watkins, last week after he said "fark this for a lark" and got out before factional fighting killed him.horace wrote:skully wrote:Worst front bench ever in the worst Government ever.

Re: NSW politics in crisis
Unfortunately h, the Spiv electorate is a stoopid as the farkin Spiv pinkos.
JGK has a fair point about the idiot Spiv Libs. If they had've got their house in order before the last election (i.e. elected a half-decent leader, NOT that farkin chinless Peter Debnam), then NSW would have been spared the embarrassment of the Iemma/Costa debacle.
