Meanwhile the tickets for next year's Ashes series are selling like hot cakes so maybe this claim is hard to justify. Ashes series still remain #1 in the eyes of the average Aussie fan.

Suggest you pay a fleeting visit to the UK during an ashes series to begin to understand the meaning of 'arch rivalry' !

As series go, it has been the closest matched mainly due to Indias batting strength over that decade.
Let's not talk as though India have been the second best side throughout those years though. Think you would just have to ask Australians what series defeat would hurt more?

And it seems just the other other day that the subi's here were talking Ind/Pak up as bigger than the Ashes.
Good times.

easy boys. i just said india is australia's only real 'cricket' competition on the test stage of the last decade or so. the ashes of course is a more iconic series with its richer history
just for comparison aus' record for series in this decade vs each team
vs india 6-5
vs ban 4-0
vs eng 14-4
vs nz 7-0
vs pak 6-0
vs sa 10-1
vs sl 6-0
vs wi 13-1
vs zim 2-0

Whatever TO said is true atleast if you go strictly by facts, then why is it so difficult to admit?JKLever wrote:The One wrote:well cricketing wise it is. no other nation comes close in the last 10 years

BTW did he speak anything about India being no.2 in world? Then how come India's ranking is being mentioned here?

Why is it so difficult to admit that everyone can have his opinion? That is Gilly's opinion, not a law to which you must agree or disagree.

With the ressurection of England under Pietersen the failure of India in Sri Lanka the tailing off of SA in the ODI's against England and the loss of Australia's senior players plus Symonds there is little between the top five.
The home team is the best team in the world ATM from these five.

India hasnt been all that hot at home in the last couple of seasons. Its been better abroad (Sri Lankan series being an exception).

Re: Gilly suggests that India is the new arch-rival.
I agree with TO, India have easily been the closest to Aus over the last 10 years, head-to-head. They blatantly haven't been the 2nd best team in the world, but in terms of competetiveness - yeah.
They've dustbowled their way to a few victories and have been the only match for Aus in terms of pathetic histrionics, overt aggression and generally bringing the on-pitch sport into utter disrepute. There's plenty of characters from both sides that one can have unabashed hate for as well.
In all, though, it leaves a massive bitter taste in one's mouth after watching one of these series (bar possibly India's tour to Aus in '04) due to the simple fact of most of my second paragraph. Just purely loathesome wankers knocking heads, looking like qunts in a pathetic 'tell teacher point scoring' scenario that seems perpetuate inexorably.
Collectively they're the most arrogant, ungracious, antagonistic, parsimonious bunch of bilious wankers that currently walk the cricketing planet. They have all the magnanimity of Zab Judah/Floyd Mayweather when they've knocked someone down. Their snide back-biting is immensely banal. It's indicative that, considering the high standard of cricket played between the two teams, how much is actually written about it and how much is written about the attitude of the teams and the incidents that occur between them.
