Vaughan out of India tour...
http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/indveng/content/current/story/371406.html
"Michael has not been selected for the tour of India because his place in the Test squad cannot be justified based on recent form," Windy Miller blew.
Any money on him making the West Indies tour after Christmas in spite of playing no cricket in between?
A shoo-in, I'd say...

Re: Vaughan out of India tour...
He's got to be playing somewhere this winter you would think?
Strange decision to announce this seperately - after all he is just another out of form player now.
Albeit one with a central contract

A complete cock-up if he doesn't make the WI tour either. That's half of his central contract pissed up the wall - he might as well have just been given a summer contract if he's only going to play against Sri Lanka A and Australia next year.
And what of Shah or Bopara, one of whom will surely replace Vaughan in the touring squad? Will they be eased aside no matter how they perform once ex-cap'n ontrack returns to some kind of form?
Move on, says I. Cut the cord...

He needs to get himself off to SA or Aus. early in the New Year AND get some runs under his belt to stand any chance of going to the Windies.

There's nothing worse than a hanger-on .... clinging onto hope ... coercing his bed-buddy (selector) Piles to keep him in mind ...
take the £250+ K under contract ... and still perform like sh!t regardless.
But hey ... remember ... 3 years ago I was good!!!
Prat.
Aye, cut the f**king cord once and for all and let's move on.

Don't be too chuffed - it means seeing a lot more of that over-rated skunt Bopara for the next twelve months.

I'd have thought Shah was 1st in line tbh, especially in India
I'd actually take a punt on Samit Patel tbh - more to offer in other departments than the other two...

Re: Vaughan out of India tour...
Well, they picked Bops for the final Test against South Africa (though he missed the cut) in place of Vaughan, so logic would suggest he's next in line.
But then KP gave Shah his backing for the ODIs and talked him up, whilst Bopara was eased out of the way and back to drinks duty.
It'll be one or the other. Patel hasn't really earned his shot yet - promising though he is.

Which is strange as he's played 40+ FC matches now with an average close to 50
we picked a lot of rubbish with a lot worse records than that...

Re: Vaughan out of India tour...
Samit's class and the average's going up but the selectors are too dim to even notice he's a batsman. I certainly wouldn't pick him to tour India, nor would I Bopara after his woeful efforts in Sri Lanka. It's got to be Shah, but then there's a question of when you're going to blood any young batsmen. The West Indies tour offers the last opportunity considering the Ashes is the only definite tour on the horizon after. Unless someone like KP comes along, a young batsman shouldn't be thrown in at the deep end against the Aussies, in my opinion.
I'm certain Bopara will get the gig, anyway.

Re: Vaughan out of India tour...
Vaughan has a first class average of 37. He isn't a great player by any means, but a very good one who looked amazing on his day. His day was very few and far between and his short pruple patch he had all those years ago is what he's been living off as a batsman for too long. A good captain but it looks like to me his heart isn't in it anymore, and I reckon he's been shot as a batter for a good while now.

He averaged 4 runs above his FC average in test cricket with 18 tons - not bad by anyones standards
I agree 2002/3 flattered him but I wonder how he would've gone without the captaincy which he admitted was all consuming within him to the detriment of his batting. Maybe it's telling the innings before he was given the job he scored 156* v SA?

It's possible, I'll guess we'll never know. He was a very good captain it has to be said. And when on form he made batting look so easy.
18 hundreds is a great return, but only 18 50's to go with it. Which means you can say that once he got in he scored big but it also tells you he failed a lot and was pretty inconsistent outside of that great purple patch.

Re: Vaughan out of India tour...
There's been reports here that Vaughan will be coming over to Aus to play grade cricket in Adelaide.
Merlin will be delighted, most people who go to Adelaide end up in a barrel in a bank vault. Still, it's better than having to spend a second week there.

Yes it's reported in our papers today that his friendship ith Lehmann means he'll play some club cricket in Adelaide in the hope of regaining form for the Caribbean tour.

An in form Vaughan is still an asset to England. Why doesn't he try and play some proper first class cricket for South Australia? I'm sure they'd have him.

They already have Younis as an import so I doubt they would want two aliens filling spots.

FARKING
It still galls me horrifically that this over the hill, wonky knee is getting nearly £300k to do fark all, but at least he's not going to India.
Now I suppose we have to look at the embarrassment of Bopara going to India and making another fool of himself on the sub-continent when he's done diddly on the International scene to warrant it.
Anyone suggesting Patel for a test spot needs their heads examining ahead of Shah.
