The best captains

Reading through a few posts here recently about who Australia's best captains have been, and seeing how Ganguly is retiring and Dhoni has taken up the mantle for India, I was wondering how FBers rated and who they rated as a good captain. Preferrably results shouldn't be made a big criteria.

For India, it's Pataudi, Wadekar and Ganguly who are the three big names. I guess Kapil, Sunny and Azhar come in next in contention. And even in his short stint, except a bit of ultra defensive decisions sometimes, I liked Kumble as a captain. I'd probably rate them as -

1. Ganguly
2. Pataudi
3. Wadekar
4. Kapil
5. Azhar

Dhoni's going to probably get there in some time.

I'd put Wadekar fairly near the top. Skipper of the first Indian side to win a series in England.
