this is ridiculous...stanland is little more dangerous than india, sri lanka, zimbo, Oz (avoid snowtown and qld at all costs) or england where bombings have happened for years...it is shameful that Oz did not go to Pakistan...the decision was based on advice from a highly dubious Oz official who it happens had an investment in the IPL

New Delhi: India's cricket tour to Pakistan in January is likely to be called off. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) sources have told CNN-IBN that the security situation in Pakistan is dangerous.

In fact the Indian mission in Islamabad has given a report on the security situation in Pakistan and the report clearly outlines the dangerous situation in the country.

it is worth noting that the Indian junior hockey team didn't show up earlier this month due to security reasons.

Everyone knows (including PCB) that this is not the right time to tour Pak.

Will be in best interests of Pak cricket if PCB allows this tour to go ahead at whatever alternative venue they think will generate revenue for their coffers.

For heaven's sake if they don't play tests against us in Jan-09 then they'd go without playing ANY test for close to 2 years.

They're next scheduled to play 3 tests against SL in SL in Aug-09, assuming Aus won't turn up to play in Pak in Apr-09.

Keep on sooking, horrie like you've been doing for Aus's entire India tour.

its time for pakistan to seriously consider neutral venues. i dont think the problems there are short-term in nature and it may be a while before a team tours again

esp after the marriott bombing its hard for any team to feel safe. if the entire hotel where a team may stay can be brought to the ground it makes any type of security arrangements redundant. even a single casualty when india tours, besides the huge personal loss, will mean the end of india-pakistan relations for more than a decade

tosh...Pakistan is being treated disgracefully...India itself has its problems ...there are parts of stanland where few probs exist and it is quite peaceful...the players should not be staying in yankee hotels anyway

India and SL has always toured Pak the whole last 'unsafe' decade when other teams like Aus and NZ have chickened out. The only other 2 teams that toured to some extent and kept cricket going there are Eng and SA. India has never shied away from a series ever till now. If the Govt. on the cusp of a new bilateral relations is overlooking political expediency and stating the situation is bad then I don't want BCCI to tour and risk life and limb of certain players who are on terrorists radar [Jaish, LeT etc.] for long. Any event that could lead to flare up an Indo-Pak war again mjust be avoided and risks minimised. The Marriot Hotel bombing and Benazir's assasination incidents unfortunately only leaves no option but to cut the tour and it's risks open......

Facing a combined USA-NATO-Pak assualt, under fire and a fast depleting India bogey that sustained their activities politically, terrorists in Pak starting a war like situation and diverting Pak attention and sources to the India front by means of provocation would just be the thing for them to do. All the more reason for India to watch where they step!

It might make sense to reverse home rights for the time being. India could share surplus revenue with Pakistan as gate and TV generated income is likely to be higher in India anyway. The two countries share soil similarity and India could reciprocate by going twice to Pakistan successively after the turmoil subsides (whenever that is).

Going to the UAE or England isn't likely to fill the PCB coffers anyway as the cost involved will be much higher than that incurred in India. Maybe the two Boards will contemplate the advantages of adopting such a thought.

that would be hilarious. pak-ind being played at the same time as eng-aus next english summer. i wonder which one would have better atmosphere

It must be really dicey in Pak if we are stopped from touring.
