Punter not ready to make peace.
Ponting not ready to make peaceRicky Ponting: not in a forgiving mood.
November 19, 2008
RICKY Ponting hasn't made peace with Ian Chappell and Allan Border and has no plans to for quite some time.
Ponting denied he was ready to offer an olive branch to the former Test captains following the outcry over his controversial tactics in last week's fourth Test loss in India.
Among the torrent of criticism over his decision to speed up the team's slow over rate, instead of ruthlessly chasing a series-levelling victory in Nagpur, Ponting was cut deepest by that from Chappell and Border.
The pair believed Ponting put himself ahead of the team's cause by bowling part-timers to ensure he wouldn't be suspended for the first Test against New Zealand at the Gabba, starting tomorrow.
"I haven't spoken to either of those two gentlemen and probably won't for a while I wouldn't have thought," Ponting said yesterday.
"I don't mind anyone questioning tactics of mine, but the thing that worried me the most over this whole issue was the fact that everybody seemed to be saying I was putting myself ahead of the team and I thought that was a bit unfair because anyone who knows me would say otherwise."
At a pre-Test luncheon in Brisbane, Ponting also said the International Cricket Council and Test-playing nations needed to prioritise Test cricket's place in the international calendar. He feared for the future of the five-day game with the rise of Twenty20 cricket, which has eaten into the calendar for Tests, and contributed to the plundering of minor nations.
New Zealand travelled to Australia minus half its best team because the players signing for the rebel Indian Cricket League. As a non-sanctioned tournament, ICL players, including Black Caps spearhead Shane Bond, are barred from ICC events.
"I think something has to give," Ponting said.
"There's just not enough time in the calendar to fit everything in. I'm a bit old-school in my thoughts about the game, but Test cricket is the purest form of the game and the one I enjoy most."
Ponting said time was running out for the problem to be addressed.
"What we can't afford to have is New Zealand losing another seven players next year."

stoopid qunt
It's one thing pointing out that Chappelli and Neil Harvey are bitter horaces but he'll lose just about all public support by attacking AB.

I thought that Chappell was actually quite mild in his criticism towards Ponting.

Between a rock and a hard place.
Either he was sacrificing a possible Australian series win for personal gain, i.e avoid a ban. Or he really wanted to play cricket 'in the spirit of the game' and is thick as thick as can be.
Personally, I'd go for the second option. Despite the fact that he is a bit of a canute, I would take him at his word.
Unfortunately, that means that his captaincy is open to severe criticism. And that he really is intellectually challenged. And that he is an arrogant cockhead on top of it all.

Begs the question why he didn't want to play cricket in the spirit of the game before tea.

Noice.
Impressive for a taswegian. Typically the last time one of them cubed something was when a stray kayaker looked at the kiddie with the banjo the wrong way.

those that have been selfish - ie put themselves ahead of the team inc. tubby, chappelg during their duck phases; bung, fleas, podge, bnlg, magoo, roy and any number of spivs who use the media to advance their chances of selection.
dont recall punter ever putting his own interests ahead of the team...eg like gilly he has always been one of those prepared to throw his wicket away in pursuit of quick runs when the team needed it

Re: Punter not ready to make peace.
Fark me drunk. If that article is accurate then Capt Stoopidhead has just out-stoopided himself.
What makes him think that either Crapelli or the mighty AB are looking for an olive branch? I think they would both be looking for the twit to admit he farked up and be done with it.
FFS.

To be honest, AB was a farquin negative captain so it's a bit rich him going off about pushing for the win.

I can't believe if AB was 1 down in a series in which he held the trophy, and had the opposition 6 down and 250 in front at Tea on Day 4, that he wouldn't throw the ball to his two best bowlers and say "farkin get me 4 quick wickets".tac wrote:To be honest, AB was a farquin negative captain so it's a bit rich him going off about pushing for the win.
I fact, I can't imagine any captain who wouldn't do that.
Oh wait....

Re: Punter not ready to make peace.
I don't think Punter did it out of selfishness. I reckon him, Nielsen and Pup got spooked when Broad gave them the warning and panicked. They just didn't stop and think about what their alternatives were. So for that he is just guilty of being a bit dim.
I'm more p!ssed off with the carp stories they are coming up with to deflect blame.
Spirit of the game ffs

Well, you can put what ever spin you want on it, but I'd put 49 year old beer-gutted Mo up in front of YT or Paris to get a wicket any day.
