The Windies are coming! The Windies are coming!

So, just like the start of this year where we had a never-ending run of games with New Zealand, 2009 will be all about West Indies overkill.
Better than Sri Lanka's second XI, I guess. Just.

Oi! I'll have you know we drew 1-1 with Sri Lanka's first xi last time we played them, and beat them in ODI's!
Perhaps we will get Stanford in charge, offer a cash incentive and beat your sorry behinds
I'm just thrilled that we are playing more test cricket. The WICB have just announced that we are playing twice as much FC cricket next year so it is going to be a massive year for our youngsters.

Thing is, Gayle, Sarwan and Chanderpaul are all contracted to the IPL.
Will they break their contracts to tour England? I suppose, now they're millionaires, they can afford to...

Re: The Windies are coming! The Windies are coming!
Sarwan and Shiv only played bit part roles in their IPL teams anyway. Gayle is probably the best 20-20 opener around so it might be more of a battle to get him.
But as you say, they are all filthy rich now anyway so I doubt there will be any problems.

Good news. Provided they bring their full strength side.

So you get a 2 Test, 3ODI tour in 09, possibly instead of the tour in 2010. Doesn't sound like a win-win situation.
And Dello, maybe it's England's turn to go through what Australia had in the 80s, where it seemed that the WIndies were here almost every year. Which I wouldn;t have minded so much, except that it coincided with the period where they were the kings of cricket and Australia would have been lucky to have ranked 10th out of the 7 Test teams in the world at the time.

Brilliant!
Hope the likes of Edwards and Taylor RIP through the English batting OVER AND OVER again.
Then Fred and Harmison should do the same to the WI
Ideally WI should win the series.

Meh, it's a good way for Moores and co to keep pulling out the "everything's fine" line after a win against them. It was NZ last season, and next season it will be the Windies. Never mind that we can't beat any of the top 4 teams, as long as we continue to hammer NZ and the Windies, everything will be "fine".

Amazing stuff, Mudge can even whinge about events that haven't taken place! He's truely the Once and Future Sook...
So will there be much demand for these fixtures, what with the Ashes only a few weeks away?

At least it promises more than a radically depleted Sri Lankan side.

Even a full strength SL XI won't have tested Eng much. They're dire (especially their batting) away from home.

Re: The Windies are coming! The Windies are coming!
Great news.
Look forward to WIndies tests, especially at Lord's, where they always seem to turn up the heat on England.
But yeah, if the WI top 4 bats are AWOL at the Indian three ring circus, even Harmi, Jimmy, Siders and Broadass would fancy their chances of running through their fragile batting line up.
WI bowling is a real threat these days though.

Takes me back to 2005 when you were crying and whingeing about losing the Ashes on day 1 of the first test. What makes it even more funny is that you turned out to be absolutely right.
