Where to now for Australia? Empty Where to now for Australia?

Post by Henry Fri 30 Jan 2009, 14:03

Might I suggest that they ease Philip Hughes into the side via the NZ jamodi series? Bat him at the top of the order with Marsh, and give Warner (who is starting to look a bit out of his depth, although he was unlucky this evening) a reality check.

That's surely better than blooding Hughes against South Africa at the Wanderers?

If Hughes goes to Saffieland ...it will be as a pure tourist ...Hattie or Bog will be be the MtFTB replacement ...and Hughes will sit in the corner and learn ...

I'm not sure about that now. Today's innings was Jaques' first at first class level in 8 months and he failed, Marsh hasn't done enough at first class level this season, and there are murmours that Rogers' has a dodgy temperement.

Hughes is young and making a stack of runs. If they aren't going to pick him, then they're not serious about moving forward into a new era.

JP Duminy has been touring with the Saffies for the last 18 months

Langer did the same for Australia before he got back into the team

Even Lara was held back by the Windies even though it was obvious how good he was

It's a well used and proven formula

It's possible Jaques may never play for Australia again.

Why (apart from worrying about 'the ginger quotient') would you not take Rogers to South Africa, with Hughes?

Until the Ponting/Hilditch issues are sorted, we're going nowhere just now.
Ponting was barely acceptable when he had world-beaters to turn to. Now he's not acceptable. And since it seems to be our policy not to have ex-Captains running amok in the team, he'll be captaining for some time to come I imagine. Sad

I'd love to see both Rogers and Hughes go to SA.
And with the greatest respect to SA, what's with our batsmen, making mediocre SA spinners look like Warnies?? It's abysmal.
Time for a psychologist I think - but not the same one Symonds is using. Razz

Botha does seem fairly proficient at what he does. I'm not sure it's bowling, but we need to practise against it ... it looks like the ODI bowling of the future.

Hmm...

I suppose not having sound is a problem. All I saw was some hot flashes and what looked like a prancing wrestler right at the bottom.

Back to the original point - it is clear that something is rotten in the Aust camp. They haven't played with such a lack of confidence and frankly, so cluelessley since the mid 80s. Very very good players like the Husseys are being dragged down with it.

Unfortunately, with Neilsen (surely the worst international coach ever) and Ponting being cemented in I don't see much changing.

But for what it is worth, for the remaining JAMODIs I would get rid of Ponting and the Husseys and replace them with KAtich, Hughes and probably Carseldine.
