The Grade Cricket Slogger even struggling in Grade Cricket
Link to SMH story
From link:
Be interesting to see what happens if the NSW selectors deem him not good enough for the Shield. Will GCS choose to carry out his threat to move interstate? Which state would take him? I suppose he'd be best off moving to the state with the weakest grade comp, so he can score some runs there to improve his stats.
From link:
NSW chairman of selectors Brian Taber denied that Warner had been pigeon-holed as a short-form specialist by his panel, instead citing the 22-year-old's lack of runs in the long form of the game for the NSW second XI and at grade level as reasons for his continued omission.
"Who would you leave out? If you look at Dave's Twenty20 form, he has been brilliant, but in four-day cricket in second XI and club cricket he simply hasn't done enough," Taber said.
<snip>
Selectors have stuck with 22-year-old Usman Khawaja for the No.6 spot that Warner is chasing. Khawaja and most of NSW's top order failed in their latest match against Victoria - an outright loss - but Taber said they needed "a second chance".
Khawaja hit a century at the weekend for Randwick-Petersham in grade cricket against University of NSW, while Warner scored only 23 for Eastern Suburbs against Bankstown.

The rest of that article does point out that Warner hit a ton in his previous grade appearance.

Aye. He 'smashed a century' 'the weekend before Christmas'.
Probably before there was any real pressure on him to produce anything other than a slogging effort.

Let's face it, most other states would take him because it would be a good leg up into the Champions League. If they have to cheapen their Shield team by "promising" him a first class gig too, it may be worth it.
I mean Victoria have been playing Crossy as a batsman recently and Warner is better than him.

True.
I suppose they can promise him a shield match or two, then drop him if he does jack in them.

Maybe he could move to WA, and they could bring in a special rule for young batsmen for him. Maybe stop him from facing more than 30 balls. Oh, wait...
