Oh Lord, the umpires for the ashes are:

Cardiff – Billy Doctrove and Aleem Dar
Lord’s – Billy Doctrove and Rudi Koertzen
Birmingham – Rudi Koertzen and Aleem Dar
Leeds – Billy Bowden and Asad Rauf
The Oval – Billy Bowden and Asad Rauf

Now that is bad. How on earth Doctrove has got such a major gig I will never know. Still, England and Australia have got off lightly when you consider that the Windies v Bangladesh tests are being umpired by Tony Hill and Ashoka De Silva.

There are honestly only 2 decent umpires in international cricket at the moment- Taufel and Dar.

It seems like they're having the same problem as European football is having with referees, a number of the top men retire and nobody has really stepped up to take their place.

Is the elite panel system not really working as they get the ones who are prepared to commit the time to it, rather than those who are potentially the best umpires?

Sook #4 [jgk]Given I have punted at least $500 on a series win by the pomgolians, the least Oz forummers could do is to organise a whip around to cover my losses [jgk]

Remember when people used to mock Howard for turning up at sporting events for a photo op?
I wonder what happened to them?
