What the f*ck were the Scottish government thinking?!
Releasing the Libyan man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing on 'compassionate grounds' (He has terminal cancer), and now he's just arrived in Libya to a hero's welcome. Unbelievable. How much compassion did this guy show when he organised to blow up an entire plane full of people? The Scottish government is weak and c*ntish.

He was just a scapegoat though, wasn't he? From what I've read the libyans almost certainly had absolutely nothing to do with it.

If he did do it then it's disgraceful.

Still, he was cheered as a hero by a country who is supposed to be reformed and pro western. Yeah right........

It's the message it sends though. Releasing a convicted terrorist, and seeing him arrive in Libya as a hero. Terrorists 1, Western governments 0.

What was in it for the Scottish government anyway? This surely wasn't what the people wanted?

Just the kind pf p!ssweak 'inspiration' the spineless Indian Govt. needed to not hang to death, terrorists condemned on the death row by the highest legal authority in the country. They will most certainly use this example to back their spinelessness someday when the moment of reckoning arrives.....

Re: What the f*ck were the Scottish government thinking?!
At the risk of turning into something I hate, reformed and pro-western do not necessarily have to go hand in hand. People are not obliged to like us or our way of life. If one of our countrymen was locked up for years in the islamic world, wrongfully or otherwise, he would almost certainly receive a hero's welcome on his return. One of the biggest problem's with the west is that we assume our way is the only right way of doing things and that breeds contempt, understandably, from people who prefer to do things differently.
Having said that there is absolutely no way I'd live anywhere else but in the West, we still have unparalleled freedoms and quality of life. But if we could just be a bit more accepting things might get a bit easier.

I'd warrant that modern Europeans are the most accepting culture in the world ever. I put that down to us, on a whole, quashing the way some pissy religion dictates our everyday lives.

If one of our countrymen was convicted of blowing up a plane in an Islamic country, he would be executed on the spot.

He's a dead man walking. He dies in jail, he dies at home in Libya. 6 of one - half doz of the other. I can understand the angst from the affected families, but.

We're all dead men eventually. But why does he deserve to be lauded as a hero in the months before he dies?

I can't believe in the death penalty, but I don't believe in the 'mercy' that sent him home either.
One of our newsreaders said it well, ' He will die in the arms of his family and those who love him, but the plane victims weren't given that luxury.'

I'd agree with this.
Henry, it's not like the man's glorying in his dastardly exploits blowing up the western devil, is it? He's maintained his innocence throughout.

Why would you release a guy on "compassionate" grounds when he could get better health care where he is?

Re: What the f*ck were the Scottish government thinking?!
I read a plausible explanation that it's all to do with GB wanting Libyan oil. The British government can claim it's all down to the Scots and wring their hands in disgust, then back up the tanker...Henry wrote:Releasing the Libyan man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing on 'compassionate grounds' (He has terminal cancer), and now he's just arrived in Libya to a hero's welcome. He passed his final years in a Cat-A nick, then died of cancer.
What more revenge would you like?

He's gone away to die, it's what a lot of people wanted to happen to him anyway. Was he the one put the bomb on the plane, I very much doubt it.
And think on this, you've all been paying for his treatment while he was in jail, treatment he mostly wouldn't have had in Libya and now he'll most likely die sooner as he won't be getting the treatment he would have got whilst here.
The Scottish government have saved taxpayers money, a very Scottish thing to do and most of you would applaud that in differing circumstances....

if the point really was to save money and hope he dies quicker then just stop the treatment. no need to dress it up as a release on 'compassion'
