And damn it felt good. I had extra curry last night, so it's gonna take some scrubbing.

analysis:
1) we opened the stable door on day 5 in Cardiff, and never recovered
2) our best was OK, on a par with or better than England; but our worst was dire(r), or is that diarrhoea?

Or as Strauss very astutely put it in the immediate aftermath,
"When we bad we were awful, and when we were good we were just good enough."
Or words to that effect. Very noice that I thought, and bang on.

Amazingly candid and realistic for an England captain, though he obviously thought our batting line-up was good enough - Headingley.
Which it isn't.

Didn't hear the word "positives" once.
Very refreshing.

................ and repeated the folly of 2005 by failing to pick the spin bowler in the Oval match who more likely would have delivered the result.

Re: Surprisingly little analysis from Aussie forummers
I said before the series that the selectors had made a mistake in choosing only 6 batsmen. I see no reason to change that view.Surprisingly little analysis from Aussie forummers
I said when Clark was left out of each of the first three Tests that it was more than likely the wrong thing to do. I see no reason to change that view.
I have said for years that Ponting is a shit captain, who struggles with decisions whenever the going gets tough. I see no reason to change that view.
I don't really need to analyse much more now we're after the event, it was done at the time.

Re: Surprisingly little analysis from Aussie forummers
I would suggest your bowling attack is a real worry. None of them looked likely at all to run through a side, and lets be fair, this England batting line-up is gash Zat!

Re: Surprisingly little analysis from Aussie forummers
Oh, I forgot to add, I was speechless when I heard that the first time since the 05 Ashes series that a Duke ball was put in any of the bowlers' hands was once they were on the ground in England. I'm sure I've banged on about it somewhere already. I see no reason to change that view.

Well he's spent most of his life doing fark all, and is retiring in his 30s. Sounds like a perfect candidate.taipan wrote:I saw on the news this morning he was saying Freddie should get a knighthood.

Absolutely LOVE it when zimmy comes out with these bitter little outbursts ... a true reflection on how he's suffering right now !

Re: Surprisingly little analysis from Aussie forummers
Well from an Australian point of view I'm glad they were done away with. I still remember some Maj-Gen at a Duntroon grad parade pissed off that we'd done away with them just as he was promoted because a knighthood usually came with the promotion. This from a guy who'd polished a seat in Campbell most of his life.
I don't really have a problem with it in England even though quite often Zimmi's comment applies.

Re: Surprisingly little analysis from Aussie forummers
There's nothing much to do an analysis now is there? It's all in the basics - Didn't bat well, bowl well, field well, and apply themselves well according to the session. The discussion on crap selections and bad captaincy etc. only hold so much of water and excuses when faced with the most basic reasons about how the players played.

And yet, the same crap is being discussed to death by most in as many threads all round the place.
It's a human trait, something you wouldn't be too familiar with!

Re: Surprisingly little analysis from Aussie forummers
It's not the bleeding obvious though, is it? Most of the batsmen did bat well, hence the fact they mainly averaged over 40. They just didn't bat in partnerships well.
