Steve Waugh v/s Ricky Ponting!

Chappeli seems to think that Punter is a good captain and that he is better than Waugh. Sr who was insipid and uninspired as a captain in his stint. This seems to be in inverse proportion to a majority of the view it seems.

Forummers's thoughts?

What would be the strengths and drawbacks of both the eras?

Chappell's just gagging for someone to say that he was better than either of them. He must be tired of being called a qunt.

There was an article by Chappelli in Inside Sport when SRW was still captain discrediting a lot of his captaincy and a few myths that went with it ...it came across as a bitter rant against the man who was surpassing his reputation as a great captain ...Chappelli isn't "up"-ing Ponting...he's still trying to crap on Waugh's legacy

Ponting is a clueless bastard who refuses to accept that he may have made a mistake.

Waugh made mistakes less frequently as the Drunk, but more often than not acknowledged them, and (here's the important bit) learned from them so the same errors weren't made over and over.

until Punter lost all his big guns, he had a far better record than "let's enforce the follow on and root our bowlers with only 3 days rest til the next test" waugh . . .

We'd be even a bigger shambles if we had waugh captaining us at the moment

Steve Waugh would at least try something different for a breakthrough, like bowling a part-timer, whereas Ponting is more likely to bowl the main 4 bowlers into the ground.

So that's one easily recalled captaincy stuff-up, failure, mistake, call it what you will for Waugh. But I don't think there's been a thread for them to be listed in.

At least Ponting has tried to pay some lipservice, however clumbsily, to the spirit of cricket. Waugh was playing out some bizarre revenge movie while he was captain and made OZ cricket reassuringly contemptable. He wasn't an idiot though, just delusional, hypocritical, fanatical and a bit nasty.

The fact that Steve Waugh had a brain outside the game aswell as in it, is enough of a reason to put him first.

That is what makes him an even bigger turd. If you want to abide by the The SoC then do it on the field and let your actions speak. Bigging yourself up in a pressing conference and then going out and playing in the same manner as you always have just leaves you open to justifiable ridicule.

At least Tugga made no pretence about not playing like a qunt

heard Crash on the radio saying that ponting is a terrible sleeper at the best of times and his insomnia gets worse over the course of a series..Crash reckons this why punters own form tails off a bit over the course of a series

Speaking of the radio - Geoff Lawson was interviewed yesterday on Sydney radio and halfway through it let rip with a massive fart.

Needless to say the announcers (Michael Slater was one) pissed themselves laughing.
