Vaughan's commentary. Painful?
I generally like Michael Vaughan, but listening to him commentate on 5 live for one of the ODIs...well is it just me or was it was quite cringeworthy? He kept using lots of slang like, "It was a good nut to take out the poles" and refering to Sidebottom as "Sid" even though no one else did (presumeably to show how pally he is with all his Yorkshire mates). Hope he doesn't get too many more goes at the mic.

Defo - I meant to post about this myself. All that 'buzzing in the ring' and general down with the boys lingo is cringeworthy.
I never liked his cliche ridden interviews as a player either, so no surprise he's an irritating pundit though.

And his constant predictions are rubbish too. It's all so self conscious.
In fairness, Athers and Nass were very wooden when they first started out, but neither was as bad as Vaughan.

Yeah, get rid.
Nas comes accross as quite astute to me, don't know where his criticism comes from really.

Plus it seems like after every single stroke he would say 'shot'.

And every time any fecker hit the ball, a nasally drawl of,
"Sh. . . o . . . t,"
Every fecking time. Shut the funk up, Mick. That's the crowd's job, not yours.

And you just know he's pulling a really stupid face. You can tell by listening to the radio.

Not sure if that was a response to me, JK, as I think the same - just saying that he was tentative when he first started out, but he's definitely grown into it.
Same with Athers - remember his first attempts at the presentations?!!

Yeah agree, wasn't a pop at you just a general comment on Nas
I loved his slating of Collingwood after the 7th ODI and when they were announcing their tour squads.
'Not made 80 all year has he? He's flying under the radar, taking England for a ride at the moment!'

Re: Vaughan's commentary. Painful?
Nasser took quite a lot of stick when he was captain and he always handled it well; never losing his rag and seemed to me a good skipper even when England were losing. This gives him the right to criticise others in my opinion. Vaughan, on the other hand, despite his batting going to pot, had an awful lot of plaudits (not to say downright adulation) when he was captaining England through their brief glory days and perhaps it all went to his head a bit.
Mind you, it doesn't take all that much for a commentator to p1ss me off. In the highly unlikely event that I'm ever invited into the commentary box and Henry Blofeld calls me "My dear old thing", so help me God I might just tell him where to stick his buses and pigeons (and don't get me started on Boycott again).

Why wouldn't Yaughan's commentary be painful? Is it full of positives?

Athers and Nass are arguably the 2 best cricket commentators in the world at the moment.
