skully wrote:So JKL, which is more enjoyable for the English cricket supporter? A predictable thrashing, ala Ashes 85 or an unexpected victory such as Ashes 05 or 09?
05 was the best, our best series win for 35 years, equivalent of knocking over the WI in the 1980's.
85 I was only young, it was great but later you learn it was two slapheads fighting over a comb.
09 was a pleasant surprise, as we are farking gash and you lot should be embarrased to lose to us (that alone makes it quite sweet )

That be because merlin is never wrong. Have you heard him admit it? Neh. Even when Dello did the trawling, he didn't get a 'hands up apology' he got some deflection derision.

Anomaly Lever, just an anomoly. I believed that they could win, called it 3-1 and they lost 0-5 !!
Based on your constant and evergreen negative 0-2, 1-3, etc etc predictions, your're bound to claim the moral "victory" for the 0 - 5 thrashing in 06/07!!
Actually, continuing on that line, judging from your perennial predictions, England will never win another Ashes series, but, if they do, as they did 2 -1 this year (as opposed to your prediction 1-3 !!), you become "pleasantly surprised" ... !
Nice!

Exactly the response you'd expect from someone that lacks even an iota of fortitude - 'kartikeyan' some might say.
Keep going....

No, I don't believe I ever claim anything after the event. I think I called 2005 2-2 and 2006/7 1-3 or 0-3 - if you think thats being negative given the strengths of those respective sides you're a loonie.

It's what test cricket is all about you twat!
A bit of luck, some guts and the balls to see out a see-saw match (with a few shennagins on the way to upset the oppos)!
Did you watch any of this last series Monkeh - or was your head so far up your arse you mssed it all?!!
Or were you one of those who called a 1 - 3 series defeat and then blamed Panesar/Anderson and Cardiff for then letting the side down by forcing the draw ?!

Are you absolutely sure you called it 2-2 in '05?
Anyway, Nothing loonie about it ... England were riding high with some good scores and bowling stints under their belts pre the Oz tour.... hence, my belief that they could pull the rabbit out ...
There was also anticipation that the 2 tgm's were expected to have retired but ... they stayed on for one last dig at us ...
Harmison lost it, the team was in total disarray with captaincy, selection issues and outside interference ... etc etc ...all downhill after that!
Not loonie to expect better from England ... we were whipped in 'o6/'07 - end of.
After your 1-3 prediction for '09, to now read you were "pleasantly surprised" ... begs the question .... why were you??
None or a limited belief in England cricket ... or just a permanent negative comfort zone?

What, being wrong and then lauding yourself as some sort of visionary?
Uh. No. It ent.
Good chunka about the whole head up arse thing - but I did watch it, yeah. We were shit, bar flashes of brilliance.
As for the last paragraph, I didn't make a prediction mate - 'trawl' if you like. All I said was we are shit - and we are mate... shit. Individual mastery on brief occasions won us the series
All you're doing is making yourself sound even more like Karti.
Re: 2010/11 Ashes dates
TBF I think more Aussies than Poms predicted an England win. But with all the farking reverse woofing going on it is hard to be sure.

Pull out the articles - anytime between October '05 and November '06 because I heard / read no such talk. There was no way, in any world, that they were going to retire pre-Ashes '06/7.
You're just making shit up, again, to try and make yourself sound better.
Which you don't.
Re: 2010/11 Ashes dates
Too early to predict the outcome - how many of the current side will be there?
Strauss
Cook
KP
Broad
Swann
Would be the only certainties so far IMO

I don't remember this at all... There was speculation that the 2005 series would be their last tour in England but I can't ever recall any reports even hinting that they would retire pre 2006/7.Merlin wrote:

There wasn't.
It was just merlin in a "I'm a pea-brained 'never wrong' needle-dick" shocker.
