Dravid dropped for first 2 Australia ODIs

Rahul Dravid has been dropped for the first two one-day internationals against Australia, while uncapped fast bowler Sudeep Tyagi has found a place. In a 15-man squad announced in Chennai, there was no place for RP Singh or Yusuf Pathan - all struggling for form in the ODI version - and their places were taken by Tyagi and Ravindra Jadeja.

Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh, having recovered from injuries, are back.

India squad: MS Dhoni (capt/wk), Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel, Sudeep Tyagi, Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma.

Nice to see Sudeep Tyagi in there and RP and Pathan being dropped. Not sure whether Sudeep will even get a chance to play in final XI as 2 Mishra and Bhajji are sure picks in the final XI.

Ishant too should've been dropped.

And no way Ravinder Jadeja should've been picked. Irfan is anyday a better cricketer than this Warne protege.

If this is the sign of things to come then surely Dravid's WC dreams would remain just dreams.

The end is probably nigh for this personable character and excellent batsman who has always lived (quietly) in the shadow of Tendulkar and the more flamboyant and gobby Ginganguly.
Just hope he makes lots of runs in this series, in what is probably his Test cricket swansong.

there are no tests against aus. we played the tests last year. the next test series is against lanka at home in november-december

he is clearly not needed for odis. hopefully he has a year or two of test cricket left in him, to allow a smoother transition

Its also been said that Yuvraj will be picked in final XI subject to him being passed fit.

In the 5 years since he made his international debut, I think I have seen Irfan bowl maybe 3 world class spells. Generally, he bowls medium paced, hittable filth.

If it means he plays Test Cricket longer by missing a couple of JAMODI's, then I'm all for it.

You know there's a story (maybe apocryphal) about Hayden, Gilly and tgm going up in a lift to their hotel room some time after the shocker at Calcutta in 2001. They didn't realise the other guy in the lift was a journo.

You're confusing tests with ODIs.

For sure, Irfan isn't a good enough test bowler. But he is surely a better ODI cricketer than Ravinder Jadeja.

Another good news is the sacking of Prasad and Robin as bowling and fielding coaches respectively.

Really, they were good for nothing. I'm surprised it took BCCI nearly 2.5 years to get rid of them.

Indian bowling and fielding aren't any better than what they were when these guys were appointed. If anything, Indian fielding has dropped down several notches as compared to when Robin took over as fielding coach.

I like Dravid - he and Laxman are my favourite international players.

I was looking forward to seeing Dravid bat in Australia in 07/08 but unfortunately he never really took off. Happy to see him make 93 in Perth, though.

Dravid shouldn't have been recalled to the ODI team in the first place. It was clearly just a stop gap measure to deal with the bouncy South African pitches at the ICCCT. India need to move on, not go back to ageing stars when the youngsters have a couple of failures. It's not the end of the world- India lost a couple of jamodi's. Before that they had won something like 17 of their last 20 games.

After Sachin, Dravid was the best batsman in the last 2 series he played. made a scapegoat and didn't deserve to be dropped like this! The selectors are such jokers. First they erred in bringing Dravid back and then unfairly dropped him for no fault of his. A legend like him does not deserve such a humiliating treatment!
