NSW-only Test XI
Will Swanton from the Fairfax stable of newspapers comes up with a very sage suggestion
How the Blues can win back the Ashes for Australia
He suggests the selectors just pick the NSW side plus Ricky Ponting in the future.

The only flaw in that plan is not making Katich the captain.

Aye, why pick Ponting for his captaincy skills?
This thread would have fitted nicely here.

One of the flaws is having to pick a dubber captain from that lot.

Plus we don't need any ring-ins.
Henriques is a better all-rounder than Watson and Smith a better spinner than horrors

given the spivs lost the last two away series I spose the idea would have merit from a pomgolian perspective

Would an all time NSW eleven beat a combined all time rest of Australia eleven?

Under state of origin rules (which denies the ROA team the likes of AB and Gilly):
NSW
Morris
Simpson
Bradman
Trumper
AB
S Waugh/ McCabe
Davidson
Oldfield
O'Reilly
Turner/Lindwall
McGrath
with Walters, Macartney, Noble, Benaud, M Waugh, Gilly, Murdoch, Thommo, Taylor, Barnes etc in reserve.
ROA
Hayden
Lawry/Ponsford
Ponting
G Chappell
Harvey
Miller
Healy
Warne
Lillee
Spofforth
Grimmett
Pretty close match I reckon. ROA's bowling might edge it.

I totally agree Lardy....surely there is an antibiotic available now to resolve the spiv infection that has laid our national team to its deathbed

Re: NSW-only Test XI
Perhaps a panacea has been found, a wondrous concoction that will deal with the dire and varied conditions affecting Oz cricket, particulalrly those exposed to NSW:
haddit has been afflicted with that old fashioned disease "dropsy"
schoolgirl has bipolar of the pads
Cowan has cognitive batting talent development delay
Fuse has Cowans condition
Starc has that strange and rare condition known as Mitchellus Johnonosis
The GCS is afflicted with IPLosis, narcissistic personality disorder and attention deficit disorder
Uber Koala suffers from SGDT syndrome and paranoia that the fed govt govt will deport him
Stevie Nix has a compulsive KFC eating disorder (from exposure to being in too many ads) and a persistent delusion that he plays cricket...
Pup has a rare condition caused by exposure to too many reruns of the Caine Mutiny where he compulsively rolls ball bearings in his hand, always loses the toss and has team-mates who are sgdt's

Re: NSW-only Test XI
NSW has supplied so many duds to the test side over the years.
It's not just the selectors that are at fault, although they should be more resistant to the NSW-biased media.
It's very hard to think of a NSW player of even moderate talent who has not been foisted upon the national team at some stage. Steve Bernard, maybe; but then he got to be manager and selector.

Re: NSW-only Test XI
BF's selection (and retention for a tour) was so bizarre ... a modern day equivalent would be Steve Stubbings being called up to replace Alastair Cook, or (in Australia) Wade Townsend being selected to open. Now I'm sure they're nice chaps and their mothers love them, almost as much as Ben Stokes' Mum loves her lad, but Steve and Wade just aren't up to Test class, and nor was Bruce.

Is that because they weren't required to play against NSW?
