Re: Thread for musicians
I play the drums to a decent level of competence. Thinking of taking up the guitar for a bit of a laugh.

Not easy! but very rewarding once you get the hang of it.

Re: Thread for musicians
Can't claim any musical talent myself (apart from the trumpet voluntary after a particularly violent curry) but my eldest plays the guitar, the partner's daughter plays keyboard and the partner's eldest plays guitar and makes strange gutteral noises, which I assume is singing.

Speaking as a bass player I cannot accept that guitars are "cool".

Basses are cool as long as you've got the big upright ones that you can spin around at a suitably dramatic juncture in the piece.

Guitar.
Why? - Neil Young, CCR, and Zeppelin. I know, I'm getting old.

Some of them. Most of the current crop of Britrock bassists are lamentable. But I would't call Sir Macca and John Entwhistle "failed guitarists".
But the bass player has to do a very different, important job to the guitarist, underpinning everything, locking the melody to the rhythm, laying down the groove that people shake their arses to. Guitarists can get away with a few bum notes, but if the bassist plays a wrong note, everyone notices.
