Re: Test/ODI teams of the decade
If I was picking a personal XI to represent me I'd choose Bond.
I think he was the best fast bowler of the decade excluding McGrath.
But the man played an average of 1.7 Tests each year and that's enough to rule him out of contention for a fair dinkum team of the decade.
It's an incredible shame we didn't get to see more of him.

Re: Test/ODI teams of the decade
Let's hope the next decade has more Bond in the offering. It'll be interesting to see how he fares on home turf against the Pakistanis later this month.
Do you reckon the kiwi crowds will turn out to see Bond in action?

I did think steyn stuck out a bit in that team of thoroughbreds but the alternatives aren't great. Most the other great bowlers had their peaks in the 90s. Maybe gough (whose strike rate was immense)? What would your team be Hass?

Well, I'm still trying to decide whether to go with a 6-1-4 or a 5-1-5 split myself. Considering I argued the merits of the latter in my previous post I might as well give it a shot.
1. Matthew HAYDEN
2. Graeme SMITH (c)
3. Ricky PONTING
4. Brian LARA
5. Jacques KALLIS
6. Adam GILCHRIST (w/k)
7. Andrew FLINTOFF
8. Shaun POLLOCK
9. Shane WARNE
10. Muttiah MURALITHARAN
11. Glenn McGRATH
Mohammed Yousuf and Rahul Dravid are unlucky to miss out (as is Tendulkar) but there are only so many places. The bowling line-up has a good mix to it. Two-medium fast bowlers, one quick bowler, one leggie and one offie. Pollock was at his best in the 90s but his record in the 00s isn't anything to sneeze at.
Personally, I'd have Warne as the captain but this is a team based on people's records not their potential. That being the case Smith is the obvious choice.

Re: Test/ODI teams of the decade
I'm going to approach my Test XI from a different angle...
1) A Strauss (C)
2) G Smith
3) R Ponting
4) R Dravid
5) K Pietersen
6) M Yousuf
7) A Gilchrist (WK)
S Pollock
9) S Warne
10) S Jones
11) G McGrath
The case for choosing Simon Jones over Shane Bond is simple. Jones got more wickets against better sides (in albeit a short period of time), while Bond barely bowled.

I suppose you could cheekily squeeze Walsh or Ambrose in the Test side, though they didnt play the majority of their careers this decade.

I'd still have Ambrose over Bond in there.

Ouch.
Re: Test/ODI teams of the decade
Best bowling attack, going by the averages is:
Boucher: 1 wicket @ 6
Jaffer: 2 @ 9
Anthony McGrath: 4 @ 14
Sir Rikki of Clarkeshire: 4 @ 15
And a couple of others, but just for a laugh and his captaincy, I'd also throw in:
(the corpse of) W Cronje: 6 wickets @ 17
Weirdly, I think that attack would be one of the better outfits in county cricket...

Do Ferraris only work occasionally, when conditions are perfect and they're not dosed up to the eyeballs on steroids?

For all the talk of Bond, Jones and Shoaib as a bowler, I would have Dizzy ahead of both of them.

I can remember someone here calling Flintoff the Rolls Royce of fast bowlers.
Bit of a slur on RR I thought.
