SA's India Tests canned
Rob Houwing, Sport24 chief writer
Cape Town – The Proteas’ intended three-Test series in India later this season has been cancelled, in a move likely to spark a fresh furore about the sustainability and protection of the five-day format.
Sport24 learnt on Monday that the intended series has been shelved, despite no official announcement being forthcoming at the time of writing.
Cricket South Africa media officer Michael Owen-Smith said the visit would be “one-day internationals only” and that fixtures had not yet been set. The Proteas are scheduled to leave for the ODIs at the end of January.

Re: SA's India Tests canned
This has been discussed in India no. 1 side, last test thread and a couple of threads on Sehwag all around. yeah. Crappy that there is no home series till 2011 and only 2 tests against bangars this year. The likes of SRT, Laxman and Dravid fading into test career's sunset while the likes of Raina's and Kohli's strut their stuff in 'promoting the great game through T20s'.....

It's probably worthy of its own thread though anyway. I don't always read the endless threads on the same kind of subject.

No need to be sorry rey. It's scattered all over the place and not consolidated enough. But read all active threads on India today.

It's not just sad; it's crazy. I suppose we'll get a lot of 'upcoming 20:20/ ODI stars' in the next few months, most of whom won't be good enough to carry Laxman's jockstraps.
F*cktards.

I don't even really understand the rationale. Cricket's built on international tours ultimately, and it can't be viable in the long run if the other countries tours are met with universal boredom by the cricket fans there.

That is what I am still counting on and hoping like hell will eventuallly knock some sense into BCCI / IPL.Shoeshine wrote:I don't even really understand the rationale. Exactly. The India- SL Test series, after a gazillion mind numbing ODIs and 20:20s, are the reason I got back my interest in cricket to above the level of mild indifference. Now they want to go back

Re: SA's India Tests canned
And India is likely to lose their number 1 test ranking soon simply because they wont be playing enough tests to maintain it. Good one BCCI.
It looked to me like the SL tests were pretty well attended as well?
Maybe it will take Tendulkar to retire from ODI's and announce he's focussing solely on tests for the BCCI to wake up and schedule more tests in place of the slogfests.

Mentioned this elsewhere as well. Talking to some teenagers back in India they are also starting to feel that the amount of limited over cricket, particularly the domestic stuff such as IPL is killing the game.
I reckon that this is a good sign.
Like it or not the Indian fan will decide the future of the game and the sooner the younger generation align themselves to international cricket the better. BCCI will be forced to follow suit sooner or later.

We can do our bit by not starting and following threads on meangless 'cricket' like I do here......
Only issue is not talking 'cricket' will get people tearing into each other though!

they're probably scared of losing. Haven't South Africa had their number on Indian soil in the last 5-10 yrs?

Not playing means they are certain to slip down the rankings. it is the other way.

Not really. Not since Sachin Tendulkar's last shot at captaincy anyways. It's not the reason really. It's just BCCI being greedy for more T20 and one day match TV revenue. Back here the bloody TV channels show breaks even as the last bowl of an over is being bowled and the break stops when the next over's first ball has started. Sometimes we miss seeing a wicket or a boundary and get to see it in replay due to this. Technically the BCCI has a cell to minor 'broadcast quality and issues in live coverage' and yet they have washed their hands off saying they can't do anything about it.
