Re: An appropriate and non-racist abbreviation of South Asia
what the crock is South Asia ? Resist the temptation to club all folks in the region as one.
primary reason being .. a lot of blood was shed in this region by various folks esp the mohameddans and the British to carve out seperate states and identities.
now that that is regrettably done, as an Indian, I do not want to be clubbed with the rest of them. And I am sure my fellow Indics feel similarly.

Re: An appropriate and non-racist abbreviation of South Asia
skully, that term has a negative history.
for instance if any rogue country in the region wants to cover up its inefficiency/misdeed, they are quick to immdiately club it under 'South Asia' so as to avoid naming their own nation and avoiding responsibility.
so you have people saying,
due to such comedians, south asia as a term has lost its character.
you dump everything undesirable onto south asia whenever convenient.
so the very term is a cynical, maligned term which is not associated with any dignity by those very people who should belong to it.

so you have people saying,
'terrorism' is a south asian problem.
'so and so religion' is extremely peaceful and is a religion of peace.
poverty is south asian problem.
in our religion there is no poverty. We are very egalitarian only.
south asia has a lot of income disparity
our country follows such and such religion which believes everyone is equal
south asian has dull and dreary cricket pitches.
ahh south asia may have dull pitches, but we have this wonderland which we call bulbulstan where the pitches are beautiful and it swings more than anywhere else

Bucky, you used the term when you reported me. It's in black and white in Dello's post showing the reporting PMs.
You are embarrassing yourself. Wake up, dude.

skully, the french board mgmt wouldn't know any better. How else do I explain to them ?
surely, you as a person who discusses subcontinent on daily basis knows better than that. Esp now that I have explained why it is not a term to be used on a regular basis. Once in a while is o.k.

Re: An appropriate and non-racist abbreviation of South Asia
And never a truer word spoken, BTW.
Most people would just crawl under a rock after embarrassing themselves so regularly and completely over a 2 day (or 2 year, in your case) period.
Frankly, I'd rather talk about cricket than continually prove you to be a strange little man.

How about using the terms "India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka". I think you undersell the French people's ability to comprehend.
So you are allowed to use a term, but if anyone else uses it, it is racist. Keep diggin', mate.
You are too, too funny.

Exactly. Other than derogatory there is no other use for such a term.
