Ireland (and Scotland, and Holland) are routinely invited to English domestic tournaments. Ireland have decided against entering for 2010 as part of their campaign for full member status in the ICC. They gave a very nice thank you to the ECB for all their help:
“We are very lucky to have England as the full member in our region. They have been nothing but incredibly generous with the opportunities they have afforded Ireland at all levels, both within the domestic competition and at full senior level, as evidenced by the England one-day squad travelling over to Ireland recently following the Ashes Test series, not to mention the other help that goes unseen, such as coaching materials and advice.
“That generosity is now beginning to pay off for England, as they are reaping the rewards of our success by poaching our players.”

Afghanistan won it on the 4th day, bowling out the Irish for 202 before knocking off the 134 required for victory for the loss of 3 wickets.
Seems like quite an exciting series between the various associate members - had two exciting draws with the team batting last close to their target but with only 2 wickets remaining at the close already. While Afghanistan's previous victory against Holland was a 1 wicket victory. They also got a draw in Zimbabwe so clearly have some talented cricketers and their is mainly a very young team.
Latest standings are:
Afghanistan, Played 3 (W2, D1) 43 Pts
Scotland, Played 2 (W1, D1) 29 Pts
Kenya, Played 3 (W1, D1, L1) 23 Pts
Zimbabwe, Played 2 (W1, D1) 23 Pts
Netherlands, Played 2 (D1, L1) 15 Pts
Ireland, Played 3 (D2, L1) 12 Pts
Canada, Played 3 (D1, L2) 3 Pts

The Afghanistan opener, Noor Ali, also scored twin hundreds (130 & 100*) in Zimbabwe and made a couple of fifties against Ireland in this match. A composite team made up from those in this tournament might be:
Noor Ali (Afghanistan)
William Porterfield (Ireland)
Vusi Sibanda (Zimbabwe)
Steve Tikolo (Kenya)
Tatenda Taibu* (Zimbabwe)
Mohammad Shahzad+ (Afghanistan)
Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan)
Tom Odoyo (Kenya)
Regan West (Ireland)
Edgar Schiferli (Holland)
Dawlat Ahmadzai (Afghanistan)
Obviously Ireland would be much stronger if they could select Ed Joyce and Eoin Morgan, although they still wouldn't have had the bowling attack to bowl out Afghanistan in this match.
