As cricket stars meet in Sydney today to decide whether to pull out of next month's billion-dollar Indian Premier League, world cricket bosses last night confirmed Australia and New Zealand were part of a contingency plan to shift the 2011 World Cup away from the subcontinent between February and April next year.

While they publicly baulk at suggestions the World Cup could be shifted, The Courier-Mail has learnt that state associations in Australia have already been briefed on the possibility of it being moved here.

From purely cricket point of view, I don't mind WC moving to Aus. World Cups in Aus, Eng and SA always produced better cricket and interest than the ones held in sub-con and windies.

always? aus has hosted one, as have windies and saffrica. hardly a sufficient data set. the one in aus was severely rain-hit and had some pretty attritional stuff on turgid pitches. the only saving grace was that the top 9 teams all played against each other

Just wait till Al Qaeda then threatens Aus-NZ. They will all sh#t in their pants and outsource it to England and then another round of threats will push it to Timbaktoo and soon all sporting events in the world will be playing merry go round on account of some terrorist threats. I am not even going to question the hypocrisy of some cricket teams and it's fans who jump up at any terrorist attack in India, Pakistan or Lanka to boycott matches but don't boycott England when train bombings happen in the middle of a tour.....


England showed the correct attitude after the Mumbai Attack and so did Aus after the middle of the London bombings. You can bet your life on Indian govt putting up Fort Knox level security for the prized event.
