So do England want KP at three for the ashes?
That's what he suggested a couple of weeks ago in an interview. he said something like "The pitches in Australia are great. I'll bat at three there no worries." And now he's at three in this match. Are England hoping he'll bat there permanently?

He dropped down to #5 in Australia before, hiding behind Colly. I agree that he should be the #3 - that's where Lara and Ponting play.

KP is good enough and is the sort of attacking player that can take a game away from the opposition. He should be Eng's no. 3 in the Ashes next summer.
Chef-Straws-KP looks a pretty formidable top 3.

It's always seemed the logical move but if he doesn't really want it then it could be counter-productive. I still believe you should generally go with either an out-and-out specialist in that position or if you don't have such a player then pick three openers.

Not sure if KP was the technique for 3.
Personally I preferred Kallis at 3 for SA.

I have always been curious as to why Shark dropped down to #4, especially now he doesn't bowl so much.

KP at 3 is fine if you can guarantee that he won't come to the crease until the score is 150!
However, back in the real world, the reality is that it would be a huge gamble and I would rather he stayed put at 4.

KP is fine at 3 if the opposition doesn't open with a left-arm spinner.

The English have usually put the main middle-order batsman at #4 - that's where Gower most often batted, and Robin Smith, and Thorpey.
