I have NFI.
I'm sure he'll turn on Merlin when he gets the chance. Or decides to GAF.
Thanks but no thanks!
This bonus 10K promotion stunt elevating a select band to "Elders" / Mods status piffle is a worrying trend.
MB dicking around with Baz's "Happy Bidet Batty" post is a classic example.
Just the thought of a dozen elevated Mods peeking in on posts and/or amending them to suit their bag reeks of 1984
Does this forum really need a zillion "Elders" to mod over a half a dozen (one in fact) possible miscreants.
So I reached 10K ... so what?
Frankly, I'd rather be on the outside throwing stones than cosying up and playing judge and jury.
Had to be said, and it's said.

A trend implies that its a series of events. Can't see any evidence of that, merls old boy.Merlin wrote:This bonus 10K promotion stunt elevating a select band to "Elders" / Mods status piffle is a worrying trend.
As has been explained previously, there was a bit of overenthusiasm on the first day of the elder circus, which settled down PDQ, as those with elder status (except tac) realised that fooling around with their new-found powers (after the initial excitement died down) would kill the place very quickly.
MB dicking around with Baz's "Happy Bidet Batty" post is a classic example.
Nice to know you think so highly of your fellow forumers. Especially given that nothing has happened after the first day's overexcitement (and the removing of tac's Elder status)
Just the thought of a dozen elevated Mods peeking in on posts and/or amending them to suit their bag reeks of 1984
Need? No. Is it a smart move by Jay to bring in a mechanism whereby the people who have wasted hours/days/weeks of their time on here have some sort of moral responsibility to keep the place going? I think it is. And I'd rather be on the inside looking out, than on the outside looking in.
Does this forum really need a zillion "Elders" to mod over a half a dozen (one in fact) possible miscreants.
Hopefully Jay takes note of this, and doesn't make you an elder then. Given the way you are so willing to accuse the elders of things they haven't even done (except, as stated ad nauseam on the first day of discovery) you're probably the kind of person who would go around and f*ck the place up if you had the access.
So I reached 10K ... so what?
Frankly, I'd rather be on the outside throwing stones than cosying up and playing judge and jury.

Blimey, Zat, you aren't half going on and on about all this elder status. I think you need to look at your reactions and possibly grow a thicker skin....

Funnily enough the most posts about the elders come from those looking in.

There's hardly been any since the initial storm in teacup hit but Zatty finds them all and potificates about them. If he'd just ignored them everything would have already died down, it just about has anyway.

Classic example of what?
There were two threads on the same subject ...I merged them ...as there are no instructions on how the buttons work it's trial and error ...got them the wrong way around and the thread looks like it belongs to H but Bas started it ...left a note to explain ...no change to anything written by Bas was made
Or would you like to see multiple threads on the same subject on the front page?

For the record, let me reiterate that I don't have a problem with my thread being merged - I can see that it was done with the best of intentions.

Re: Elders ... whodunnit?
Nice try Zat - but it ain't whingeing ...after all I too am an "ELDER" now ... ironic isn't it?! So just watch it hey!Zat wrote:So merlin's whingeing posts preceding mine don't count. Your bullet pointed reply to my issues on this promotion/elder malarky proves my point precisely about dishing it but being unable to take it .... criticism that is.
Grow a thicker skin mate!
I was NOT selectively criticising individual forumers - 'cept for a passing reference to MB which was to highlight (in MB's case an innocent attempt at 'dicking' around) the possible - repeat possible - abuse of "power" by any one of the numerous "elders" for that matter - peeking in at posts and PM's and unilaterallly adjusting/amending them to suit their own diktat and convenience....
I'm not saying it's going to happen - but it leaves the door open .... and what we do not want is a repetition of C4 modding where posts are messed with/deleted just because they were deemed "offensive" to a particular "elder"/Mod ....
D'you get my drift? Hence my reference to 1984 and the Big Brother syndrome.
Re. Trend = the "promotion" of a fistful of forumers by adding 10k posts to their tally ... a trend = doing it to more than once.
I trust that clarifies my position ... I am pleased you like and prefer it on the "inside" .... my choice is the opposite, and I would hope that you accept that with a tad more grace than was shown in your reply!
MB - I now recognize what you were doing ... there was no offence meant, I was only using it as a reference to what could occur in the extreme case.
taipworm - take your stirring spoon and shove it.
If you got SFA to add to this discussion then stay TF out of it.

Too easy as per usual.
