The word "test" would imply a contest on a par with RU and cricket, which they clearly aren't. Best to call them 'B' Games I think.

Exactly, that's what I would want though. I know it will never happen, but a man can dream.

The chairman of Rangers has said they could go out of business if a tax ruling goes against them... obviously won't come to that, but got me thinking about what would happen to Celtic if they did! Would anyone bother turning up to see them if they had absolutely no competition whatsoever? They would either collapse financially themselves or just slowly decline to the level of their remaining "rivals". So in a strange way, the two Old Firm clubs are each totally dependent on the thing they hate the most!

Scottish football without the Old Firm? It would be competitive I guess, but probably no better than League One standard... perhaps already the case, as Gordon Strachan took half of Scotland down to Boro and left them virtually bottom of the Championship!

It was okay for the first sixty minutes but got a bit depressing after that.

So, that's it for Spurs then. Scoreline a bit harsh but always up against it after that start. And ITV left with a meaningless game to show next week.

Holders Inter are heading for the exit as well, losing 5-2 at home to Schalke.

Well done, Crouch. How to royally screw your side over in two clumsy steps.

Gareth Bale's made of glass.

He'll be one of those "if only he hadn't had so many injuries" type of players, when his career, which will promise more than it delivers, comes to a close.

Almost didn't get kept on as a teenager at Southampton due to his never-ending fitness problems.

Other than 4 goals and a sending off.

No contest once Crouch was, correctly, sent off after 15 minutes.

Didn't actually think Real were overly impressive - they lack the fluidity and speed of Barca - but 11 vs 10 for almost the whole game at home to the team in 5th in the Premier League: only one possible outcome.

And some sweet co-commentating from Ray Wilkins. Every time Real got a corner, he'd say "This is fine. We (Spurs) don't have a problem with this is. We can get everyone back. Don't look in any trouble. It's from open play that it gets difficult."

Two of Real's goals were from corners.

Given the relative poor quality of the Prem this year i'm was not going to be surprised if all 3 teams went out at this stage before the draw was made.

Maybe United will jam their way to the final like they are in the league

You knows it. Schalke won 5-2 at Inter. So whoever wins the Chelsea/ManU QF looks like getting a relatively soft semi.

Heh - soft semi. We've all had 'em...

There's only one goal in it. It's not terminal for Chelsea by any means.

But their team needs a massive overhaul in the summer. So many one-paced, one-dimensional players.

It's a pretty damning indictment that their most creative and dynamic player of recent weeks has been Luiz - a centre back.

I always find it weird that if the team playing at home first loses 1-0 then the away goal doesn't affect them in the slightest, it's just a goal. Win 1-0 at home in the first leg and score in the second and your pretty likely to get through.
