Barca'll walk it from here.
Can see a repeat of their final vs United a couple of years back when Xavi and Iniesta unexpectedly made Michael Carrick and Anderson look a bit non-league-y, Messi and Eto'o outshining O'Shea and Park, against all odds.
Maybe the emergence of Darron Gibson will make a difference this time...

What's happened to United's famed youth set-up? Where are the next generation of decent players?
They haven't brought through anyone decent since Wes Brown (and that's stretching it) in the late 90s.

Torres, Anelka, Lampard - to the knacker's yard you go. Go on. Buzz orfft with you.
Should be playing for Crewe or Grimsby or Hereford.

Yep. Unless...beamer wrote:So, that's it for Spurs then.
And if that did happen. Real would score one deep into injury time to go through on away goals.vilkrang wrote:Gareth Bale will score 5 in the last 10 minutes at White Hart Lane.

They (and they're not alone in this) don't really GAF about the youth set-up any more. They can buy almost anyone they want.Dello wrote:What's happened to United's famed youth set-up? Where are the next generation of decent players?

Really Zat. Any idea how many of the players that came through MU's youth set up play for other premier clubs? When did MU come into all this money. You sure you aren't confusing them with City?

Yeah, I'm not sure that's true about them not caring. They seem to throw their weight around enough when it comes to signing up the supposed top talent around the youth scene.
But no-one seems to come through any more. Although I hear Ravel Morrison of the current crop is one to watch. Not least because he's a moron who is as likely to end up in jail as become a United regular...

Re: The Football Thread - 10/11
Last of the big clubs still owned - at least partly - by Englishmen, Arsenal sell out to American Stan Kroenke for £731 million.
Re: The Football Thread - 10/11
Let foreigners pay for contemptuous, petulant, brainless qunts with no personality, humanity or common decency in this forever increasing monetary orgy.
Re: The Football Thread - 10/11
No, but if they're playing for other clubs, doesn't that suggest that MU only has the 'youth set up' because they have to, not to bring players through to their own team?taipan wrote:Really Zat. Any idea how many of the players that came through MU's youth set up play for other premier clubs?
You are kidding aren't you? MU is one of the richest clubs in the world in any sport. They've bought players with impunity for more than a decade. Or doesn't that news make it through to the Veldt? When did MU come into all this money. You sure you aren't confusing them with City?

Re: The Football Thread - 10/11
Comment from a newspaper article that sums it up nicely:
"Kroenke could give Wenger £1bn and he'd still scour Ligue 1 for a 22-year-old flimsy, crap in the air and weak in the tackle centre half."
Will Wenger still be able to operate in the same "trust me, the youngsters will come good" comfort zone as he has done for the past few years? Will he have a clue what to do if he is effectively ordered to spend big? Or will the new owner want a change at the top anyway?

Tevez off apparently with a torn hamstring... does that mean another season outside the top four for City then? They've shown so little without him that I suspect Spurs are celebrating already.
