Re: The Commonwealth Games
Australia now 8 golds ahead, probably too much for England to catch up though could be a few in the boxing to come.

Nitu Nitu and Sagar Sagar are both in boxing finals. So good they named them twice?

What a great race that was - good time too.

Re: The Commonwealth Games
She's actually Nitu Ghangas and he's Sagar Ahlawat. Guess they just want to be referred to by their first names. Happens in athletics and cycling as well. But obviously commentators can't know that and would call them Sagar sagar, Esow Esow, Meenakshi Meenakshi etc.beamer wrote:Nitu Nitu and Sagar Sagar are both in boxing finals. Probably not the case with Neville Neville, who was the father of football stars Gary and Phil!tricycle wrote:She's actually Nitu Ghangas and he's Sagar Ahlawat. Re: The Commonwealth Games
England women take the hockey gold… disappointment for the netball and cricket teams though, who leave without medals.
Too much silver left on the track by England, Australia must be safe at the top now.
Went along to catch some of the cycling earlier on, the closest the Games got to my doorstep… also attended a packed athletics session, you can’t say the local public haven’t got behind this. Poor man’s Olympics with questionable political baggage perhaps, but it’s another spotlight for the less high profile sports and great preparation for the global Games for those who take part. Not sure how much longer it can sustain alternating UK and Australian hosts so let’s hope a few other countries buy into it.

Re: The Commonwealth Games
Australian Athletics has slowly improved over the last couple of decades.
We have always smashed it in the pool to take a good lead in the medal tally in the first week of Comm Games, but tended to fade, with England often swamping us in the Track and Field.
Aus has improved in the latter area, while England has possibly had to give up medals to other countries in the UK as well as Caribbean nations.
So to hang on to the overall medal count lead and increase our gold medal lead on the last day was pleasing.

Also, Aus showed their overall team performance counts when their 2 guns (Healy and Lanning) don't fire. Both had poor Games but Aus still took the Gold.

Curiously still one more half-day of some of the lower profile sports, then closing ceremony tonight…skully wrote:Australian Athletics has slowly improved over the last couple of decades.

Disappointing athletics return from England in terms of gold, but a solid performance from the UK athletes overall including some young talent. Obviously strength of field varies and this was the second of three major championships for them this summer!

Kookaburras on fire in the Men's Hockey. Currently up 5-0 at HT.
At risk of doing a JGK, India will need to lift unless a dozen or so houses around India might be burning tonight.

India got a little better but Aus won 7-0 in the end.
