Do you value religious dogma over scientific evidence?
1000 years ago scientific thought believed that the world was flat, 500 years ago science believed that the cure for many illnesses was to apply leaches and bloodletting and they believed that anyone who used herbs to treat ilnesses was a witch, 100 years ago science was using radiation for everything from removing unsightly body hair to using powerful x-rays to get the correct size for your foot to fit a shoe. 40 years ago science believed that when exposed to something like ddt, asbestos or agent orange and you didn't drop dead straight away that the stuff was harmless.

Re: Do you value religious dogma over scientific evidence?
500 years ago religion thought the world was flat and executed scientists who dared to suggest otherwise, there are 'religions' in the world today based on witchcraft, radiation has been around for millennia and scientists have learned a lot about it in barely 150 years, and holy water will kill you if you drink enough of it.
most people exposed to asbestos come to no harm; they just sh!t themselves for years about what might happen and usually doesn't. Mesothelioma is a spectacularly awful loser's lottery; but most people exposed to asbestos, even crocidolite, don't get it or anything else.
interesting first post ... googlebot?

Ah, well, I stand corrected.
Let's hope more spambots state the truth.

No, is the answer.
One constantly challenges and reasseses itself as and when the means and technology become available, in order to find the best possible "truth", no matter how inconvenient the "answers" might be to previously held beliefs.
The other is religious dogma.

To be fair, Jesus was never the same after those knocks he got to his hands and feet.

Aye - got to be wary of ulterior motives.

Quite a few monks turned it down to begin with. Said it was too long for mass production and some of the stories were totally unbelievable.

Incidentally, did anyone see Christopher Hitchens in today's Guardian? The man has aged by a million years. Cancer. What a bitch.
