Nope, it's not legal nowadays - well done. Yep, I do think that the majority of Indians adhere to the caste system - it doesn't mean that they "support caste based discrimination", it's just the way it is to them. I guess it is my problem.

The caste system has never been legal in India, and the only 'discrimination' in effect now is for the upliftment of the 'lower' castes. And furthermore, I can honestly say, as a person who has lived in cities all my life and being of the middle class, caste really is not an issue.

So not one of my Indian friends is prepared to answer the simple question.

Do you not do history in schools or is that bit just glossed over?
