International Rubbish Cricket at the WACA....
Fans Urged to Get There Early!
29/11/2007
Patrons attending the KFC Twenty20 International between Australia and New Zealand on 11 December are being urged to arrive early and beat the peak hour rush.
The match is scheduled to start at 6:05pm, and with traffic around the Perth CBD to be extremely busy as city workers begin to head home and parking severely limited, those coming to the cricket should allow themselves plenty of time to get to the WACA Ground.
Gate 8 (Members entrance) on Hay Street will open at 4:00pm, while public gates will open at 4:30pm. Once inside the ground, fans will be treated to a special pre-match entertainment, featuring "All the Fun of the Fair", and a special flying fox demonstration from the Urban Descent team.
WA cricket fans eager to see the first ever Twenty20 International staged in Perth have snapped up almost every available ticket.
WACA Chief Executive Officer Graeme Wood says the response has been outstanding.
"Twenty20 cricket has captured the imagination of cricket lovers all over the world, and the people of Western Australia are no exception," Wood said.
"Following the success of the recent ICC World Twenty20 championship in South Africa, the shortened version of the game has taken on tremendous significance at international level.
"It will be a special treat for fans in Perth to see the best talent Australia has to offer competing against some of the big-hitters from the Black Caps.
"To those who haven't yet purchased tickets for the game we urge you to contact Ticketmaster as soon as possible to ensure you don't miss out."
The Black Caps arrive in Perth next week and will play in the annual Lilac Hill Festival Match, presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the KFC Twenty20 International, before heading east for three Commonwealth Bank Chappell Hadlee Trophy games.
Ticket sales have also been strong for the three KFC Twenty20 Big Bash games being staged at the WACA Ground over the New Year.
"Twenty20 cricket has played an important role in attracting new fans to the game around the world. The shortened format and constant on-field action makes it a perfect fit for families and those people who haven't experienced international cricket before,” Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland said.
"KFC Twenty20 Internationals in Australiahave been played in front of capacity crowds and delivered unprecedented television ratings around the country. The match in Perth will be no exception."
There is added incentive for the State teams to do well in the KFC Big Bash, as the finalists from this summer's competition will battle it out in a proposed Champions Twenty20 tournament in October 2008 against finalists from domestic Twenty20 competitions in England, India and South Africa for a $US2 million first prize purse.
“The KFC Twenty20 Big Bash now takes on extra meaning as each side will be desperate to finish in the top two and get the opportunity to compete on a world stage and play in the Champions Twenty20,” Wood said.
The Retravision Warriors' three home KFC Twenty20 Big Bash matches are against Tasmania on New Year's Eve, Victoria on Friday 4 January and Queensland on Sunday 6 January.
Tickets are still available for all KFC Twenty20 matches at the WACA Ground, as well as the third 3 mobile Test Match between Australia and India from 16-20 January 2008 and the Commonwealth Bank Series one-day international between Australia and Sri Lanka on Friday 15 February 2008. Contact Ticketmaster on 136 100 or visit http://www.ticketmaster.com.au/.

To be fair, I would go to a hit and giggle if I had the opportunity simply coz it looks fun.
Doesn't mean it should be taken seriously enough to hold a world cup in which many of the players participating were yet to have even played the game at international level.
