And that does rather destroy Cook's case as he was all kinds of porridge with the bat last summer.

Yeah I know that. But the performances required is severely limited when you consider it's mostly performances in England by players who haven't already won the award that is required, so the award itself is a bit of a farce, and not always an indication of 'who's so hot right now'.
